Chapter 29
Endless (Clarity Coast Omegaverse Book 1)
The three Omegas left the room, and I shook my head with a smile. The dresses together were horrendous, but in a good way. Joel laughed quietly.
âIf Trinity breaking her NDA hadnât brought us to Isolde, I would be pissed at her.â
Me too.
The interview we did with the Omega reporter had business knocking down our door the last few months, but through our website. Where we were still anonymous. People didnât get our private number unless they knew us, or after they signed an NDA. Iâd never been so glad someone broke their wordârisking both their reputation and career. Would we ever have met Isolde otherwise? Unlikely. The thought made my heart hurt.
Vaughn put a hand on my shoulder and nodded toward the Veranda. I followed him. âWhatâs up?â
âWilling to help me with something?â
âFor the last time, Iâm not going to help you bury a body,â I said with a grin.
He snorted. âFunny.â
âWhat is it?â
âThe dress Isolde has on is cheap on purpose. So it can get messed up.â I saw the gleam in his eye.
âYou want to do the chase?â
âIâd like to try.â
âWhat do you need?â
âWhy only Rowan?â Hawk asked, leaning in the doorway. âIâd like to help Isolde have some fun.â
Vaughn raised an eyebrow. âAre you all listening?â
âObviously.â Joel was the next one out the door. Vaughn winced. âSorry. I just know itâs not your thing.â
Early on in our pack life, Joel had misunderstood Vaughnâs interest in primal play for something darker. Heâd walked in halfway through the conversation, and his Alpha reacted first. One black eye and a lot of apologies later, things had been fine. But Vaughn still tried to be subtle about it.
I knew it ate Joel up that heâd made that kind of mark on one of his packmates, but I was hopeful Vaughn would realize how sorry he was. Joel went straight to him, palming the back of his neck, faces close. The signal. We chose it a long time ago as the way for the others to know we werenât fucking around.
âIâll apologize as many times as you need me to. Iâm the one who fucked up. There is nothing wrong with you or what you enjoy, and itâs my biggest regret that I ever made you doubt it. Please donât hide.â
Vaughn nodded, the tension in his shoulders easing. We hadnât had to address anything like this in a while, but we were human. We all had insecurities and fears, and while we were in such a tenuous place trying to figure things out with Isolde, it made sense that they would be at the surface.
âBesides, this is perfect. You promised Isolde youâd chase her, and I promised her Iâd show her my brand of comfort. Youâll do this tonight, and Iâll do the rest tomorrow.
âNow,â Joel stepped back. âHow can we help?â
âI was thinking about using the beach past the cliff, and the caves. Low tide has almost perfect timing tonight. She has a safe word, and Iâll make sure she remembers it, but I need help getting her there, preferably without tipping her off, and I need to make sure no one gets curious or decides they need a nighttime stroll on the beach in that direction.â
Hawk chuckled. âYeah. Wouldnât want Ellie and Warren getting in the middle of that.â
A snarl grew in my chest. âOr Beau.â
Vaughnâs face went flat. âIs he back?â
âNot as for as I know, but fuckers like him tend to come out of the woodwork at the worst time.â
âIâd like that,â Hawk said, smile turning sharp. âWill give me an excuse to finish what he started last time.â
âIf he does show up, letâs try not to get ourselves kicked out before the wedding,â I said.
Cade smirks. âSomething tells me no one would complain if he were the one kicked out.â
âIsolde knows this is coming?â Joel asked.
âShe knows itâs coming. I asked her if she wanted to plan it out or just take her, and she asked for the latter. But Iâll make sure she knows itâs me before anything happens. But if any of you tell her to go meet me, I think it will tip her off.â
I leaned back against one of the pillars. âIâve got an idea for that. But I can help head off anyone coming from the house. Linger on the lawn or something.â
Cade nodded and stepped forward. âIâll stay closer and within hearing distance in case you need me or in case something doesnât go to plan.â He chuckled. âNot like I have rut to worry about.â
âThank you.â
âItâs getting harder not to just tell her,â Hawk said. âYesterday I mentioned having Alphas willing to practiceâ¦â He shook his head. âShe made a point of saying we need to do things before the wedding. We need to tell her soon. I donât think I can make it all the way to the wedding without her knowing sheâs ours.â
I nodded. âI agree. And I do think sheâs more open to it.â
âThe day after tomorrow. After the Bachelor and Bachelorette parties,â Vaughn said quietly. âThat leaves enough time before the wedding for us to leave if she wants us to, and not disrupt things. And it gives us a few more days to show her.â
Show her how deep in we already were. Because we were. Isolde felt like a spot of sunlight. She lit things up wherever she went and made them more beautiful. Even when she struggled, she was so open, her Omega desperate to give her vulnerability to someone who would cherish it. Those moments in the library with her would stay with me forever.
Hawk ran a hand through his hair. âHow do we tell her?â
âI think thatâs a problem for a different day,â I said. âBecause I need to think about it.â
Joel nodded. âI agree.â
Looking at me, Vaughn raised his eyebrows. âYou said you had an idea about how to get Isolde to the beach?â
âYeah. And the first step is making sure she canât find any of us when she gets back.â
