Chapter 23 (Shots)

Hello my lovelies! I know what you're thinking; another chapter? Well, yes. For one, this chapter is waaayyyy short and I didn't think it would be fair to make you guys have that as a weekly chapter. For two, it left at a cliffhanger and I couldn't do that to you guys! (I was writing it and thought, why not? It's a huge game changer but I think people will like it? Just, please don't kill me!)

And for three; I have 3 major tests this week that determine how the school is teaching us, (I'm a sophomore in high school for people who don't know. I'm 16.), and I might not have time to write so I will maybe be late on my update. So, I wanted to give you guys a little bit of an extra boost for it! Anyway, good luck! And, I'm sorry!

Edward (POV)

'Is he crazy?!' I thought, gaping at Jacan as he stood up to my father. Didn't he know what he was capable of? What he would do? However, neither my father nor I could say anything as Alexios said the same word I was waiting for.

"Me." His voice echoed throughout the room.

"Me!" A child's voice spoke and I turned to watch as Jacan's little sister burst through legs in the crowd and raise her hand up high as if she was being called on. A women burst through as well and grabbed Jessy, giving me the impression that it must be her mom.

"I guess that means me as well." She said. Then before I knew it, multiple people burst out and started shouting out the word, "Me!" confidently. It soon became so overwhelming that I couldn't help but laugh and get tears in my eyes. It was a short while later before the entire crowd died down and I heard a voice that made me freeze.

"Me." My mother stepped out from behind our father and came up to me. "I haven't been the best mother. I also know that I don't deserve your forgiveness. But I do know that I want what's best for this kingdom." She told me before swinging on my father angrily. "Now, if you know what's good for you, then you'll back down." My father's mouth opened and closed for a long time before he grumbled angrily and shook his head.

"I will not stay here and watch you ruin this kingdom! My kingdom!" He shouted. He then spun around and looked towards the nearest guard. The guard didn't have time to react before my father grabs the gun from the guards holster and swings back to me, aiming it at my head.

"Edward!" I heard Jacan scream out. I heard my mother gasp and shout as two shots rang out. Then, all I could hear was silence.

Jacan (POV)

My heart was swelling with happiness as I watched Edward beam happily at Jessy and my mother when they both supported him. Then, I watched him smile even more as the crowd rose up to cheer him on. I couldn't help but feel pride towards Edward. He had come so far from the little boy who used to play in the woods with me. He had come so far from the boy I met for the first time in seven years. Now, he was a man. A man with a responsibility, a duty. And I couldn't be happier to be a part of that.

"Me." Edward's mother spoke with authority, coming to stand and look Edward in the eyes as his father fumed. I saw the hopeful glint appear in Edward's eyes. "I haven't been the best mother. I also know that I don't deserve your forgiveness. But I do know that I want what's best for this kingdom." She then swung around to the old king with a fierce look, "Now, if you know what's good for you, then you'll back down." The old king looked like he was going to burst as he stomped like a child.

"I will not stay here and watch you ruin this kingdom!" His father bellowed in answer. "My kingdom!" He the swung around and grabbed a gun.

"Edward!" I called out trying to shove him away; but it was too late.
