THE MORNING AFTER

Xiao Zhan P.O.V

A sound of music wakes me up from the slumber I'm in. What's that? Oh! That's my phone ringing. I sit up abruptly, but regret the decision immediately. Because my whole body is aching and sore. I can't even touch from my waist down. I look around and find myself in an unfamiliar room. A hotel room to be precise. Why am I here again?

Slowly last night's activity all came back to me. How me and the unknown man lying by my side did it last night. How my body danced in the rythm of his fingertips. How my body responded to all his touches. Last night was way perfect to be real. And weirdly enough I enjoyed it.

I took the phone that was ringing again. It's mom.

"Bonjour maman! Tu me manques!"

"Sean, baby! What's wrong? Why does your voice sound like this? Are you okay?" Mom sounded worried. Of course she is worried. I'm her only son. But how do I tell her that I failed and not make her more worried?

"Maman! A-Fei died! We couldn't save her. I couldn't help her, maman!" I sniff. Well I've always told mom everything. And she's always kept me safe.

"Sean! I'm video calling you right now. Take it." She hangs up. Wait! No. She can't see this man by my side. But her call comes instantly. I go to the bathroom to take the call.

"Hi mom." She's in her room. It's already dark there I guess.

"Sean. You look devastated. What's wrong?" She squints her eyes at me. I know she'll get it in no time. "Sean. Is that sex hair?" And there she goes!

"Mom!" I show her a face. And I'm sure my face is red now!

"Sean! Who is he? Does he treat you right?" I sigh and didn't know what to tell her. How do I tell her that it's a one night stand?

"It's a one night stand."

"Huh? Sean! Is it because what happened with A-Fei? Did you do that to forget? If it's like that I'm disappointed. You can't do that, honey. It's not how it works." She's always the reasonable one. Always guiding me to do the right thing. Not scolding, not yelling, just telling me the reason. Making it easy to talk to her about everything.

I can't help but sigh. She knows me so well. She knows my every tendencies. "Mom. I don't know. I was lost. I promised her. But i couldn't keep it. She died right before my eyes. In the operation table. I just couldn't face anyone. I fled from there. Yu Bin ge and Lu jie has been calling me ever since. I couldn't take their call. I went to the bar, got drunk. And there I found this man."

Mom smiles at me. "Sean. I know that you know what's the right thing to do. I just don't want you to regret anything okay? Mama's always with you."

"Mmm. Je t'aime maman!" I smile at her and she gives me a smile then disconnect the phone. I get out of the bathroom to find my one night stand still sleeping. Well I'm an early riser, I shouldn't expect everyone to be an early riser. But then I check my phone thoroughly to find seven more missed calls from Lu jie, five from Yu Bin ge, five from A-Chang and one from Dad and Madam Xiao each. There's also a few unread messages.

Yu Bin ge: Zhan, are you okay? You left so early.

Zhan, take the call, we're worried!

And there's another from him from today morning.

Yu Bin ge: Sean Xiao. If you don't take the call I'm coming to storm you at your home.

Oh god! Yu Bin ge must be really worried! Then there's one message from Lu jie too.

Lu jie: A-Zhan, jie is worried. Won't you talk to jie? It's okay, if you don't want to take my call. We can talk when you're at the hospital, hao bu hao?

Ah! I made all of them worried! I didn't want to, but why am I like this? Oh! I've got to reach the hospital too. I find my backpack and get ready. It's just six in the morning. I can still catch my shift on time. I get everything and before leaving I look at him once. Should I tell him something? Well it's just a one night stand. But still, it doesn't hurt to be nice.

I find a piece of paper in my backpack and write a little note and leave from there. As if nothing happened. Well it should be like this. I take a taxi while reading the message A-Chang sent me last night.

A-Chang: Gege! Why aren't you taking our calls? Dad is mad and ma is worried. Call back whenever you read this. Please!

I sigh. Just how many people did I offend last night? And then I remembered Julian's call and hit my own head. Ahhh! Why? Just why? I'll just talk to him later I guess. Right now I have a shift to attend.

When I get off the taxi and enter the hospital the first thing that happens to me is I got hit by a patient's description folder from behind.

"Sean Xiao. If you think you're the only one that was affected for what happened, I'm so gonna kill you!" It's Yu Bin ge. Well here goes nothing. I turn around and find Yu Bin ge looking at me. And slowly his face changes from fierce to shocked.

"Sean, you look like you've been hit by a truck."

"You bet." My English will always shock him in the morning. But today it did something else. I can't really place it.

"Lu jie is worried sick. She brought lotus roots and pork rib soup today. Meet her ASAP." He just turns around and starts going away. But then he stops. "Oh, and go meet the director before your shift. He is waiting for you in the office."

"I will. Thank you, Yu Bin ge!"

When I entered my own cabin, I got shocked. My dad was sitting at my chair, looking at the door. "Finally you're here."

But he too looked shocked looking at me. Why? Is something wrong in my face?

"You look like you've been hit by a truck." He says the same thing Yu Bin ge said a few minutes back. "Zhan, are you okay? Do you need to take the day off? I can send you home with the car."

"It's okay, dad."

"It's not. I'll call ZhuoChang to bring you back home." He orders me right away and then calls someone, probably A-Chang. "That brat came to the hospital. You don't have to be worried anymore. Send ZhuoChang to the hospital to bring him back home."

I sit on the chair in front of the desk and instantly regret, because the way my butt is sore I probably won't be able to sit for now. Oh and also I need to meet Lu jie real quick.
