The two walked hand in hand under the setting sun. The blazing multicolored rays from the sunset painted their bodies, making their originally black colored hair look coppery from the lighting.

She turned her head to look at Wei Zilin’s increasingly bright and glossy profile under the glowing lights. She could not help but think about the words he had posted on Weibo earlier.

This was a form of confession, right?

Although he had said it before on Valentine’s Day, after seeing it again, she still felt an inexpressible feeling of warmth.

Wei Zilin looked down and saw their elongated silhouettes on the ground. His was good-looking, tall, and long, as if it had been created through an art process. The field was illuminated by the setting sun and was somewhat reddish. The long shadow cast against the ground, making it seem as though someone had painted on it. The whole scene was cozy and comforting.

While staring at the shadow on the ground, Wei Zilin leaned toward Xu Moyan and took her hand. Then, he took his phone out and took a picture of the shadow of their holding hands.

The figure was stretched out, and it seemed like Wei Zilin was much taller than her.

Wei Zilin lowered his head as he posted on Weibo: “There are some things that people care about, but we don’t really worry about it at all. There’s nothing more important than the two of us being together. We’re indifferent toward everything else.”

Xu Moyan reposted it while swelling with pride and replied: “Your companionship is the best thing in the world.”

The two of them did not read through the envious comments and blessings they were getting from their fans. Instead, they just smiled at each other and went home.

Li Lanying was busy washing vegetables in the kitchen when Xu Moyan left to clean up. She quickly entered the kitchen to help out.

“There’s nothing here that needs your help, so go and accompany Zilin instead.” Li Lanying said.

“He’s chatting with dad, so let them get along with each other.” Xu Moyan said before hugging Li Lanying. “Moreover, I’m going back to B City tomorrow. Don’t you want to hang out with your daughter?”

Li Lanying laughed. For the first time since Xu Moyan had returned home, she showed an unwilling expression.

She wiped her wet hands on her apron and caressed Xu Moyan’s hair. “Of course I do. It’s rare for you to come home, so your dad and I are so happy. Now that you have a boyfriend, we don’t have much worry anymore. We’ll just wait for you to get married, then we can rest easy. Zilin is a good man and he can take care of you. When you’re all alone in B City, we’re constantly afraid that you’re struggling, or that you won’t let us know when you’re going through rough times.”

“It’s alright, mom. I’m getting better now. I’ve adapted to life in B City and made more money than before. I have ample money at hand now, so you no longer have to worry about me.” Xu Moyan hugged Li Lanying’s arm.

She always knew that her parents were uneasy with her being in B City all alone. It was just that she had never heard Li Lanying say it out loud. Now that she had heard it first-hand, the tip of her nose began to ache.

Li Lanying smoothened her hair and said, “I know your job’s quite tiring, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. If you can no longer take it, just quit your job. Do what makes you feel comfortable – mom and dad can still support you.”

“Mom, what are you saying? No job will ever give you a hundred percent satisfaction. I’m really fine now, so don’t worry about me. If I’m no longer happy, I’ll definitely come and complain to you.” Xu Moyan rarely acted coquettishly around Li Lanying.

Li Lanying smiled and nodded. “Alright, then help me peel the potatoes. If you keep hugging me, I won’t be able to work. If this continues, I don’t know when we’ll be able to eat.”

“Mom, why don’t you go and rest. I’ll do the rest.” Xu Moyan said.

She was a great chef. However, she could only come back during long holidays due to work.

Li Lanying thought that she was already working hard in B City, so whenever she came home, her parents would never let her do anything. They would insist on her living like a parasite and would want her to just vegetate around the house.

Even if she slept until 12 o’clock, no one would bother her, and they would remind each other to whisper. If someone accidentally raised their voice, the other person would glare at them. “Be quiet, my baby girl is sleeping!”

Although the parents never said anything out loud, their actions were enough to show their love for her.

However, since she started working in B City, she could not spend a lot of time with them. She felt distressed by this, and her eyes started getting wet and reddish.

“There’s no need. You just rest after peeling the potatoes.” Li Lanying said, refusing to let Xu Moyan help out. “There is a lot of soot and oil in the kitchen. You’re still young, so you can’t let your skin be damaged by these oily fumes.”

“Mom.” Xu Moyan simply took the apron off of Li Lanying’s body. “Let me do it just this once. If you can’t bear it, then just sit here and talk to me. My culinary skills are quite good, but you constantly feel bad for me and never allow me to do anything. As a result, I’ve never prepared a single meal for you guys. I’m going back to B City tomorrow, so let me have this opportunity.”

There was a strange atmosphere in the room. The last time she came home, there was no such uncomfortableness between them.

Li Lanying nodded silently as she tried hard to conceal her moist eyes.

Afterward, Xu Moyan gave it a thought and reckoned that Wei Zilin’s sudden appearance in their lives made Li Lanying feel that her daughter was getting married soon. This was why she felt the sorrow of a parting heart.

In the past, when Xu Moyan was single, Li Lanying would busy herself looking for a match for her. However, she did not feel the sorrow at the time.

The in-law’s family would not be better than her flesh and blood. They would never take care of her daughter as selflessly as she did. He opened a bottle before pouring a glass for Xu Qingrui. Li Lanying could not drink these spicier types of white liquors, so Wei Zilin poured a glass of red wine for her instead.

Watching the jewel-like liquid in the wine glass, Wei Zilin said, “I’ll leave with Moyan around noon tomorrow.”
