Chapter 43
If I Disobey the Duke
Couplesâ Quarrel (2)
The air in the dungeon was as cold as ice.
Tristan, sitting on an icy stone floor, asked nervously, âItâs been 3 days. You came really early.â
He had his entire arm immobile as his shoulder was broken into pieces. His eyes twitched as he endured the pain.
âWhatâs wrong with that? Whatâs your problem? At least I came all the way here. Anyone who sees this sight might think Iâm the one whoâs guilty. Should we change seats?â Dandelion shuddered.
Tristan was a proud person, but this time he overcame the urge to grab and hit Dandelion. He only sighed and turned his head and smashed his forehead against the wall. âDandelion. You have only one advantage.â
âWhat? Thatâs so random. What is it?â
âLily didnât share your personality.â
If Lilyâs personality had been like Dandelion, it would have been hard for him to like her.
Tristan liked women who were shallow and thin, but those women were everywhere. Any man would also fall in love with such a noblewoman.
But for the first time, he saw a woman who exuded the atmosphere of pure innocence.
Lily might be eliminated in the physical aspect, but he didnât mind it since her nature was immaculate.
Dandelion didnât hesitate and opened his mouth again. âSo what should I do if youâre thankful? Youâre just a brothel owner who fishes for crap everyday.â
â â¦You are in a bit of a condition today. Dandelion.â
Dandelion snorted. The eyes staring at Tristan were disgusted. âWho was the person who didnât know the status of my sister and tried to hit her? I know youâre trash, but you actually dared to hit a woman? Iâm telling Brother Crocus. Reflect on yourself.
âWhat a crazy, arghâ¦â Tristan, who was about to get up, fell down again due to his shoulder. He wrapped his left shoulder with his right hand, leaned forward and took a few deep breaths.
Dandelion grumbled for a long time, âI know that my older sister can be slightly frustrating and annoying to deal with, but did you have to get physical? Also, it was my mother who died because of her, not yours. It makes more sense for me to get physical.â
After a while, when he got up, his expression was a spectacle. âHow could I put my hand on Lily? Iâm sure your father would tear me to death.â
âI donât believe you. Whenever you open your mouth, youâre lying.â
Tristan wanted to scream at how outrageous he was. âAsk Lily directly!â
âMy weak-minded sister telling me? If she did, the lord might be on a tour with your head at the gate. You donât know how scary these people are.â Dandelion remembered something and moistened his dry lips.
Tristan finally realized what it felt like to be truly frustrated. He sighed and shut his eyes. His chest ached as he inhaled deeply. âIt never happened. I swear on my property, Dandelion.â
Dandelion seemed to understand at that moment. âOh, I see. Then why the hell are you here?â His anger softened. âIs it because you went into the maidâs quarters and tried to get women to be prostitutes?â
Tristan groaned like a man with a knife in his throat, and looked at Dandelionâs back. He looked at an angle to see if anyone was eavesdropping as an anxious reflex.
When they stopped talking, the surroundings were silent.
Tristan was relieved, thinking there was no one near the prison. His eyes turned cold. âDonât say those words anywhere. In this land where your ears are a blessing, youâre taking advantage of your mouth.â
âWhy? It was your fault, not mine. I was just going to play with the maids.â
âThereâs something called an accomplice in this world, Dandelion.â
âI know. But if I report it quickly before other people know, Iâm not an accomplice, Iâm a whistleblower, right?â
ââ¦â
Tristan clenched his teeth.
Dandelion was stupid. It was something that even Dandelion himself recognized.
He was not at the level where he could think of such a cunning way to get out of a problem. The only way he learnt those was while he was hanging with him.
Tristan covered his eyes with one hand. âDid you⦠tell Lily?â
âDo you think Iâm crazy? If this gets to my fatherâs ears, Iâll get beaten like a dog.â
In her last marriage, Lily was known to be more than a cheeky commoner who simply bribed people to get the position of a mistress.
She was a woman as vicious as her father who seduced and sold innocent maids for her familyâs wealth.
Of course, it was Tristan who contributed the most to that image.
âAnyway, stop talking about this. Iâm glad no oneâs here. The Duke of Winter here is a real devil. Donât make my neck dangle because of your nonsense. Dandelion.â
Someone who was listening to the conversation at the entrance of the hallway got up from leaning against the wall.
He turned around and left the dungeon.
