Chapter 1017
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Madelyn handed Dalton to Margaret, âTake him upstairs. Iâll come up in a moment.â
Margaret nodded hesitantly and carried Dalton upstairs. âOh my! Whatâs the background of this person?
He doesnât seem like a good person at all.â
Madelyn returned to her seat and sensed the subtle gaze directed at her, making her uneasy. The eerie vibe spread instantly, with only Mya seemingly living in her world. She sat beside Fred, saying, âMadelyn, the food cooked at your home is the best.â
Madelyn actually had many things to ask Mya, but it was not convenient with him around. So, she responded, âIf itâs delicious, go ahead and have more. Iâve already asked the servants to make a few extra dishes.â
Fred asked, âItâs such a rare occasion for me to come visit. Arenât you at least going to treat me to some good wine?â
Zach gestured to a servant, who went to the wine cabinet and took out a bottle of red wine, opening it for him. After that, Zach skillfully removed the bones from the fish and placed the fish into Madelynâs plate beside his.
âLeave after drinking! We donât keep outsiders in the house.â
Upon hearing the term âoutsiders,â Mya suddenly felt sad. âDoes that mean I canât meet Madelyn often in the future?â
Madelyn said without raising her head, âMya isnât an outsider. Itâs clear to everyone who is.â
âMs. Jent, youâre still as eloquent as ever. Wonât you have a drink with us?â
Madelyn said without mercy, âI donât drink with scumbags.â
When Mya saw them at odds, she tugged at Fredâs clothes under the table. âYou promised not to stir up trouble. Donât bully Madelyn, or else I wonât talk to you anymore.â
Myaâs voice was just barely audible so Madelyn and Zach heard it. As Madelyn observed Fredâs reaction, she saw him extend his hand to touch Myaâs head as if petting an animal as he said, âBe a good girl and eat your food.â
Madelyn frowned, âCould it be Mya and himâ¦? No way. Fred comes across as exceptionally cold-
hearted, even compared to Zach, despite their equal ruthlessness. His targets always end up dead or maimed.
Besides, I remember seeing Cecilia and Fred having an affair in the previous life.â
Madelyn had witnessed it once and was still unsure whether it was real or fake. After she had told Zach about it, Zach never allowed her to leave the house again.
Madelyn lost her appetite after eating only half a bowl of rice. âIâm full.â
By the time she finished only half a bowl of rice, Mya had already consumed three bowls and was now holding the fourth. âMadelyn⦠just give me a moment. Iâll be full after another bowl.â
The servant stammered, âM-Ms. Harper, Iâm afraid you might have to wait for a while. The cooked rice is all gone, but weâre already making another batch. We didnât know guests were coming, so we only prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Jardin. Ms. Harper, if you canât wait, you can have pastina first. The rice will be ready in half an hour.â
Mya quickly finished the half a bowl of rice and said, âSure! Iâll have another bowl of pastina, then Iâll be full.â
Madelyn advised, âMya, you shouldnât eat too much at night, or youâll have indigestion and you wonât be able to sleep comfortably.â
âAll right! Since you said not to eat, then I wonât. Madelyn, I have something good to give you.â Mya ran forward, took her hand, and pulled her upstairs.
After the two of them were out of earshot, Fred sneered, âIt seems like your situation is getting worse and worse. Youâve offended so many people, just for a woman.â
Zach replied, âAt least Iâm not interested in simple-minded fools.â
