Chapter 1037
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
At the tranquil company garden, Blake asked, âLiam, why are you here? Howâd you even find me?â
Liamâs sudden arrival was not just a pleasant surprise but more of a shock to her.
He lowered his eyes to look at her and admitted, âI searched for your companyâs address online, and I texted you.
But you didnât reply.â
Blake glanced at her phone and saw a message and a missed call.
She responded, âOh, Iâm sorry! I was napping when you called me. And I forgot that Iâve muted my phone.â
Blake changed topics. âBy the way, have you eaten? How about I treat you to a meal?â
Liam replied, âI brought food for you.â
Blake was surprised, âWhatâs this?â
Liam said, âI made it myself.â
Blake took a deep breath, âYou cooked?â
Liam maintained his smile as he said, âI made it according to your preference. Since you like spicy food, I made some spicy buffalo wings that you like.â
Blake loved food more than anything. She was a little moved upon hearing what he said. She thought, âHe must be interested in me since he brought me food. I canât string him along.â
She responded, âLiam, Iâm sorry⦠I have a boyfriend! I quite like him and we work in the same company. He confessed to me yesterday. I canât accept this!â
Liamâs eyes turned gloomy, âCan we be friends then?â
Blake remained quiet and thought, âWhy is he so humble?â
She replied, âSure, youâre a platinum-rank web novelist, my idol since middle school. How could I not want to be friends with you? Iâm just a bit surprised because big shots like you were usually aloof and unapproachable. Itâs my pleasure to be able to become friends with youâ¦â
Liam smiled slightly, âOkay.â
Blake was still worried that Liam might be upset. She carefully said, âLetâs go to the nearby Avalonian restaurant. There shouldnât be many people at this hour.â
Liam responded, âSure.â
Blake walked slowly, so Liam deliberately slowed his pace.
She asked, âDid your headache get better? Have you consulted a doctor about it?â
Liam replied, âDonât worry, I just need some rest.â
Blake nodded, âThatâs good. Itâs important to get some rest if youâre not feeling well. Donât trouble yourself like this again in the future.â
Liam said, âOkay.â
Meanwhile, Susan was following behind Kevin as they headed downstairs from the office to the cafeteria. They coincidentally ran into Blake and Liam.
Susan said, âI knew it. Blake must be dating someone. Mr. Harrison, he must be the reason she resigned.
And heâs even here now.â
Last night, Susan worked overtime with Kevin until almost ten oâclock. After a long wait, she finally had the opportunity for Kevin to give her a ride home. But he dropped her off halfway and went to pick up Blake. So, Susan wanted to take revenge on Blake.
Although Susan did not know why Kevin did that, she was sure Kevin and Blakeâs relationship was not as simple as it seemed.
Susan decided to pin this matter on Blake. That was why she took the opportunity to talk negatively about Blake just now.
Kevin responded, âAre you very free? Stay back to work overtime tonight then.â
Susan said, âI didnât mean it that way. I was just curious.â
Blake turned her head and saw Susan chase after Kevin. She was a little jealous. She then recalled Kevin seriously asked her to leave his office just now. She began to wonder if Kevin really considered her as his girlfriend.
She suspected that Kevin might have some ulterior motive for dating her, but she still did not know what his true intentions were.
If Kevin intended to use her for his own gain, she would never forgive him. Blake despised being used and exploited like a fool.
In the Avalonian restaurant, Liam opened the thermal lunchbox and placed it in front of Blake. He ordered.
a plate of spaghetti for himself.
Liam asked, âYou seem unhappy today. Should I not have come?â
Blake immediately looked up, âItâs not like that. It has nothing to do with you.â
Liam took a sip of warm water and said, âI didnât take it to heart. Try it.â
Blake quickly composed herself. She did not want to affect him because of her own problems. She said, â I didnât expect your cooking skills to be this good.â
Liam replied, âAfter I recovered from my illness, Iâve been living alone. Iâve always been writing novels alone since I graduated from school. I normally cook for myself.â
Blake asked, âWhat about your parents? Donât you live with them?â
Liam answered, âThey divorced and each has their own family. Itâs inconvenient for me to stay with either of them.â
Blake had not expected that. She looked at Liam with compassion. She understood the loneliness of being abandoned by parents. She had been alone growing up too.
Liam continued, âI got leukemia, and my parents couldnât afford the medical expenses. This became a burden to them. They argued almost every day and that persisted for six months before they decided to divorce! Later, I met a kind person who donated me the medical fees, giving me a second chance at life.â
Liam looked particularly earnest when he stared at her. However, he did not realize that the more casually he mentioned these things, the more heart-wrenching it was for Blake. She felt very sorry for him.
Blake had never thought a successful writer like him would have such a poignant backstory.
Blake was chewing her food when tears suddenly filled her eyes. âLetâs not talk about it anymore, itâs just too sad! How did you manage to get through all this alone? I am alone too, but at least I have a cousin, an aunt, and an uncle who care for me. They treat me like their own daughter.â
Liam quickly grabbed some tissues and handed them to her. He said, âIâm sorry, I didnât mean to bring this Iâm used to being alone, but Iâm doing okay now.â
