Chapter 1057
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Kevin looked at Madelyn intently, his eyes holding back his thoughts. He stood up, staying quiet. He never really thought of Madelyn as Mrs. Jardin.
Kevin was just following Zachâs orders, even though he did not really want to. In a different time, Kevin could have been Zachâs devoted general, unwavering in war.
Perceptive to Kevinâs feelings, Madelyn addressed him, âMr. Harrison, your look says it all. I know you disapprove of me. I overheard part of your conversation. You and Zach are using women as pawns for your ambitions. Isnât that akin to exploitation?â
Her voice chilled as she continued, âWhether or not you have genuine feelings for Blake, I advise you to keep your distance. Itâs not about suitability; itâs about worthiness. You donât measure up to someone like Liam.â
âDonât repeat Zachâs mistakes,â she warned, sounding protective, almost maternal.
Before leaving his office, she added, âIâll discuss Blakeâs situation with Zach. After all, he listens to everything I say now.â
Kevinâs expression darkened. Madelynâs words struck a nerve, underscoring his insecurities about his position and worth.
âCan you believe it? Whatâs Blakeâs background that even Mrs. Jardin came to support her? This is unbelievable.â
âOh no, what should we do? If Iâd known, I wouldnât have said those things. My job is at stake now.â
âIs it too late to apologize to Blake now?â
Madelyn eventually found Blake in a convenience store, seeking solace in a sandwich. She had stopped to buy some medicine for Blake.
âOnly sandwiches? Arenât you paid well enough?â Madelyn asked gently.
Startled, Blake looked up, âMadelyn? What brings you here?â
âI came with Zach to address some issues at the company. I was about to head back.â Madelyn responded. âTrouble at work?â
Blake hesitated before responding, âJust tired of people talking behind my back. It led to a fight.â
âYou remind me of myself at your age,â Madelyn remarked.
Blake, surprised, said, âI canât picture you fighting, Madelyn. Youâre always so calm.â
As Madelyn applied medicine to Blakeâs wounds, she reflected, âPeople change. Standing up for yourself was the right thing. Now, they wonât dare to mess with you again.â
âI heard your argument with Kevin, and I think I know what his motives are,â Madelyn confessed.
Blake winced under the sting of the medicine, âWhat do you mean, Madelyn?â
