Chapter 1108
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
âStay back. Donât come near me!â
The personâs voice sounded scratchy. They were a bit late in warning her, though.
Struggling to see in the dark, Madelyn flicked on her phoneâs flashlight. She gasped upon seeing someone in a hospital outfit with skin covered in burn marks, causing her phone to slip from her hand in shock.
Hearing a crash, Zach rushed into the womenâs restroom without a second thought.
Before Madelyn could snap out of her daze, Zach had already started. pulling her out.
âYou okay?â Zach looked her over real quick.
Still freaked out by the burned person, Madelyn nodded. âIâm alright. They looked so hurt⦠It freaked me out. Letâs head back, okay?â she mumbled, the image sticking in her head like a bad dream.
Even though Madelyn did not buy into ghost stories, she could not shake off the spooky face she saw.
In the restroom, Yvonne, a sobbing mess with foul-smelling stains on her hospital gown, was found by her helper.
Yvonne felt humiliated. She remembered a time when she did not even bother looking at Madelyn, but now, seeing Madelyn getting more attractive, Yvonne could not help but feel angry and jealous. She wished she could destroy Madelynâs face.
Yvonne thought if Madelynâs face got scars like hers, Zach would not look at her twice. She figured Madelyn was only around Zach because she was pretty.
âMadelyn, Zach doesnât really love you; he just likes how you look.â
Back in her hospital room, Yvonneâs helper assisted her in changing into clean clothes. Shaking a bit, Yvonne grabbed a mirror she usually did not like using. Gazing into the mirror, her eyes were fierce and intense over her changed face.
She thought, âMadelyn, weâre not done yet. When I get better, Iâm going to make sure to ruin your face.
Then Zach wonât like you anymore, and heâll come back to me. I should be Mrs. Jardin, not you.â
Yvonne gently touched her face and mumbled to. herself, âJust you wait, Madelyn. Youâll see.â
Upstairs, Lana, who was eight months pregnant, was relaxing in Kaiâs office. Kai had arranged for her to stay there for easy supervision.
Holding a cup of coffee, Lana came up to Kai. He was deep into checking out Yvonneâs medical stuff, but he quickly switched his attention to Lana. Standing up, he gently took the coffee from her. â
Hey, you should be resting in bed. Let me deal with the little things, okay?â
Lana sat down in a chair that he had pulled up for her. âWhoâs that person you were talking about today? The one who got all burned? Will she be okay?â
Kai answered, âYes, youâve heard of herâitâs Yvonne. Weâre not sure whatâs going to happen next; even with surgery, we might only fix like 60 to 70 percent of how she looked. Her burns are pretty bad.â
Lana pondered briefly. âOh, Yvonne. Sheâs lucky to be alive. What about her ex-husband, your friend?
Does he worry about her?â
Kai laughed a bit as he adjusted his glasses and twirled a pen. âWell, itâs okay to talk about this with me, but donât mention it around Zach. Heâsâ¦complicated. You know, yesterday -â He stopped talking when Lana suddenly moved to sit on his lap.
