Chapter 1110
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Kai asked, âIs everything okay?â
The nurse gave a quick nod. âAll good. Iâm off to fetch the meds.â In her mind, she pondered, âThat medicine hasnât seen the light of day in ages. Whyâs it being used for this patient?â
Just then, a voice called out, âHi, Mr. and Mrs. Jardin!â
Kai glanced up, his eyebrows raised slightly, as he heard voices outside.
âAh, what a surprise!â As Zach and Madelyn walked in, he poured two cups of water, sliding one toward Madelyn. âHere, I added some brown sugar to this one. Itâll help warm you up.â
Madelyn smiled in thanks.
âSo, what brings you here today?â Kai knew they usually had a reason.
Madelyn turned to Zach. âYou go handle your stuff.â
Zach, needing to step out but reluctant to leave Madelyn alone, decided it was best that she stay here.
The evening sun set, reflecting the recent mix of warm and chilly weather. Zach, wanting to keep Madelyn cozy, shrugged off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
âStay put for a bit, okay? Donât go anywhere. Iâll come find you soon. Just be patient.â
Madelyn barely had time to react when Kai, slightly frazzled by their close interaction, said, âYou two could be a bit more mindful of others around you.â
Zach said, âKeep an eye on her. If anything happens, itâs on you.â
Kai replied, âRelax. Sheâs not going to vanish into thin air.â
Once Zach was gone, Madelynâs demeanor transformed as she gently touched her cheek, remembering Zachâs touch. âI bumped into Yvonne.â
Kai paused at her words while he was fetching a new, unused blanket for the couch. âYou really shouldnât be meeting with her, Madelyn. Itâs best for you to stay away. Zachâs past is still a touchy subject, and sheâs in a bad state. Sheâs been disfigured, so thereâs no telling what sheâll do out of desperation.â
Madelyn held the warm cup, her fingers tracing the glass. âIâm aware. I just needed to ask her something.â
âI understand you want to ask about Ethanâs location, but thereâs something sheâs keeping under wraps. Donât worry though, Iâm on it.
Iâm trying to slowly coax Ethanâs whereabouts out of her. We need to play it cool, especially around Zach.â
Madelyn nodded in agreement. âGot it. And thanks for last nightâs help.â
Kaiâs smile broadened. âDonât mention it. How about joining us for dinner? Lanaâs almost done with her check-up. Iâve had the caretaker whip up some of your favorite dishes.â
About thirty minutes later, having wrapped up his paperwork, Kai led the way to dinner. The lower level housed Kai and Lanaâs living quarters, a cozy setup within the hospital. Space was one thing the hospital had plenty of.
As they descended the stairs, they noticed that Lana was conspicuously absent. Kai asked about her whereabouts, and the caretaker informed him, âMrs. Stewart mentioned she wanted to go on a brief walk nearby, and she hasnât returned yet. Iâll bring Mrs.
Stewart back soon.â
âDonât worry, Iâm aware of where she might be.â Kai turned to Madelyn. âGo ahead and start your meal.
Iâll come back quickly.â
Madelyn, familiar from her previous visits, was well-known to the caretaker.
âMrs. Jardin, perhaps youâd like to start with some fruit? Dinner will be ready in a little while,â the caretaker said.
Madelyn responded with a gentle nod and a smile.
Shortly after Kai left, a nurse wearing a mask appeared at the door. She knocked and. said, âMrs.
Jardin, weâve processed your medical check-up, but thereâs a glitch with the blood test results. Weâll need you to come back for another test.â
