Chapter 1169
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
A bulky, chubby-looking guy among the group of people licked his lips.
and said with a smile, âMs. Samford, you didnât need to come here personally over such a trivial matter. Rest assured, if he wakes up, I promise to skin this guy alive for you.â
Cecilia responded, âYou guys are so loosely organized just because Zach is no longer keeping you in check now?â
âMs. Samford, you do know that our boss has already stopped doing anything illegal. Now, we can only earn a little money to make ends meet. We didnât expect this jerk to be so bold as to mess with that situation. Now our base has been swept. Ms. Samford, what should we do?
âTo be honest, the jobs that our boss had us do were indeed quite nice, we didnât need to spend much time and effort, but the earnings were too little. Is there any solution?â
Cecilia waved her hand, and the caregiver who helped push Ceciliaâs wheelchair quietly walked out of the ward.
The door to the ward was finally closed.
Blake returned to Liamâs room. She pondered, âIâm not sure if I misheard, but I think I heard Ceciliaâs voice. But why would she come here?â
With questions in her mind, Blake fed Liam some soup. After taking the medicine and the IV drip, Blake helped Liam put on a jacket before leaving the ward.
Liam asked, âYouâve been absent-minded since you came back. Did something happen?â
Blake decided not to tell Liam. Considering his weak health condition, she felt it was better to let him continue doing what he enjoyed, like writing novels.
Blake responded, âNothing. I was just wondering if thereâs any unfinished work. I took a day off for you today. so just rest at home. If there are any important documents that need to be dealt with, Iâll contact you. There was a publisher who wanted to meet you today to discuss book publication matters, but Iâve postponed it for you.â
Blake supported Liam as they walked, multitasking by handling the emails on her phone.
Neither of them brought up the incident that happened between them.
Liam knew that bringing it up again would only make Blake feel disgusted and distance herself even more.
âBlake?â
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Blake immediately looked up and saw Cecilia waiting for the elevator.
Blake smiled faintly. âMs. Samford, what a coincidence! Are you feeling better?â
Cecilia nodded with a gentle smile. âYes, much better. Is Mr. Xander sick?â
Seeing that Liam had no intention of joining the conversation, Blake replied, âYes, heâs a little unwell. I took him here to get IVs.â
The elevator arrived on their floor, and the four of them entered. After Blake said that, none of them talked in the elevator.
1 Then, Cecilia broke the silence. âYou probably know about Kevinâs resignation, right?â
Blake nodded. âYes.â
Cecilia lightly tapped the side of her wheelchair with her fingers. âWho do you think is the most suitable to replace him?â
Blake gave a neutral response, âIâm no longer part of the secretarial department. As for who is suitable to replace him, you can make the decision. Iâm just an assistant; I have no say in this matter.â
Cecilia lowered her head and smiled, showing a cunning expression.
When the elevatorâs doors opened, Cecilia left without saying anything, her wheelchair being pushed by her caregiver.
When Blake and Liam arrived in the hospital parking lot outside, she sat in the driverâs seat. âLiam, what do you think of Ms. Samford?â
Liam squinted as he looked at the incoming call displayed on his phone. He turned off the vibration of his phone and put it back into his pocket. âNo opinion. I just simply donât like her.â
Blake nodded thoughtfully. âActually, I donât like her either. I donât know why, but I always feel like the way she looks at me is so cunning. When I was her assistant, I could never figure out what she was thinking. When she was pregnant, she seemed to imply to me that the child she was pregnant with belonged to Mr. Jardin, but I was told that Mr. Jardin had never been involved with her. So⦠What is Cecilia up to?â
Liam responded, âBe careful of her. She isnât as simple as you think.â
Blake was surprised. âEven you can tell that?â
Liam smiled slightly. âIâve been writing for so many years, so I can kind of guess what people are thinking most of the time. Anyway, I have something Iâd like to ask for your help with, do you mind?â
Blake replied, âNo matter what it is, Iâll agree. After all, youâve helped me so much. Just tell me.â
Liam said, âAccompany me to the Xander residence.â
Blake exclaimed, âY-Your home?â
Liam leaned back in the car seat with closed eyes. âTo be exact, itâs my fatherâs new familyâs home. I owe him a favor, so I have to attend this meal.â
Blake thought, âIt seems that everything Kevin said about Liam was true. Liamâs background isnât simple. And his father was the reason I was released from the holding cell. If thatâs the case, I have no reason to refuse him.â
She responded, âOkay, Iâll accompany you. But letâs make it clear, if I do something wrong, you have to cover for me. Iâm used to being casual, and I donât know much about the etiquette of wealthy families Liam smiled. âOkay! Iâll be with you every step of the way. I canât leave you to your own devices, especially considering the circumstances.â
