Chapter 349
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 349 âWhyâd you come to the school?â Madelyn asked, catching her breath with her hand on her chest.
âGeorge called me and told me you hadnât come home yet. I thought you might still be at school,â Ethan said, giving a smile. âI was worried since itâs late, so I came to check on you. I didnât expect the students here to be so enthusiastic.â
Madelyn and Ethan rode the elevator down to the first floor. Madelyn looked anxiously back at Leyton, still upstairs. âYouâre such a big shot, most people donât get to see you,â she said. âYou couldâve just given me a call.â âI tried to call, but your phone was off, Ethan said.
âOh!â Madelyn exclaimed, finally realizing. âI turned my phone off during the test. Iâm sorry. You donât have to wait for me; youâve got a lot of work to do.â
âHow could I not worry when youâre alone?â he asked. Madelynâs lips lifted into a smile. Nobody had ever been this kind to her.
âLeyton parked the car at the school entrance, so itâs a bit of a walk,â Ethan said. âDo you want me to carry you?â Madelyn shook her head. âNo, thatâs okay. Iâm not tired, just a bit sleepy. Letâs go home.â
Suddenly, Ethan bent down and scooped her up into his arms. Madelyn was so surprised that she instinctively clung onto his neck. âThere are still people around who havenât left class,â she said. âWeâll be seen.â
âSo what if they see us? Iâm carrying my own girlfriend. Nobody can say anything about that.â Madelyn was worried about Ethanâs legs. His recovery was taking time, and he was not fully healed yet. âIf you get tired, just put me down.â
âItâs okay. Iâm not tired.â They walked down the quiet path with lights illuminating the way. In the light beams, it looked like snowflakes were falling. Ethanâs steps were slow, wishing the path could be a little longer. A big snowflake fell on his shoulder, and he looked up.
âItâs snowing, Madelyn.â No response. He looked down at Madelyn in his arms and saw that she had fallen asleep. Snowflakes landed on her long, dark eyelashes, making her skin look as pale and delicate as a fairytale princess.
As they left the school grounds, Leyton had already pulled up in the car. From a nearby black car, someone said, âIsnât that Madelyn in his arms? Whyâs she still at school so late? Zach⦠Is Madelyn really not coming home?â
Zachâs eyes darkened, and his face revealed an indescribable chill. âItâs her house. Why wouldnât she come back?â
Madelyn slept soundly all the way to the Arnold residence. Ethan carried her upstairs, and Leyton followed with her backpack. Madelyn instinctively rolled into the covers as soon as she hit the bed.
Ethan tucked her in and quietly closed the door. He also turned off her phone that was in her backpack.
âTomorrow, help her get an hour off school. Have one of the maids wake her up around 7:30.â âAn hour? What if she oversleeps, misses a class, and gets upset?â
âCompared to her health, nothing else matters.â
She had surgery and stayed at home to get better for two weeks. But she was not very strong. If she had not been carefully looked after for the past month, she would have gotten sicker. âShould we still give her the medicine?â
âJust for the last two weeks. We canât stop now.â
âYes, boss.â In the darkness, Madelyn woke up. She heard every word of the conversation outside the door. She pressed a hand to her racing heart, feeling overwhelmed. â Is this what it feels like to be cared for?â In the past, Madelyn had gotten a cold and a fever one night. When Zach came home and could not find her, he asked the maid how she was. When he found out she was sick, he had just said, âItâs just a cold. She wonât die.
