Chapter 395
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Ethan frowned when he noticed the door was not tightly closed and halted. He asked, âDo I have any other appointments today?â
Leyton heard some commotion coming from inside the office. âNo,â he replied. He stepped forward and pushed the door open, only to find Donna sitting in Ethanâs office chair. His expression changed abruptly. âShe actually dares to come back!â
Upon seeing Ethan outside the door, Donna placed the photo she had been holding down and stood up with a smile. âLong time no see!â
Ethanâs demeanor suddenly turned iceâcold, and he stepped closer. âWho let you in? I told you not to appear in front of me.â
Donna traced her fingers along the deskâs edge as she approached him. âBut it was you who desired to meet, wasnât it? Remember that night you spent with me.â
Ethanâs response was curt. âThatâs enough, Ms. Jolie.â He then turned to Leyton, instructing, âHave the security department escort her out and ensure she never enters the company premises again. Also, fire the receptionist who allowed her in.â
Leyton nodded and said, âYes, sir.â
Clearly wanting to avoid any further interaction, Ethan left the office.
As Ethan walked away, Donna called out, âEthan, donât you want to know why I left in the first place?â
Leyton glanced at Ethan then Donna. In Donnaâs eyes, he detected a hint of sadness.
Ethan continued his departure without stopping, causing Donnaâs heart to ache. âEthan Arnold, you canât escape me for the rest of your life!â
Leyton stepped forward and said, âMs. Jolie, whatâs the purpose of all this? Mr. Arnold is doing well now, and itâs best not to disturb him any further. The financial support he provided you should suffice for a lifetime.â
Donna put her sunglasses back on and shot Leyton a cold glare. âLeyton, you played a part in separating me from Ethan back then. What right do you have now to stand in front of me and preach?â
âBut⦠Ms. Jolie, didnât you leave Mr. Arnold for someone else, despite knowing how well he treated you? Things have changed, and itâs best if you have no ill intentions toward the girl in the photo. You canât possibly compete with her, and Mr. Arnold is not as easy to handle as he once was!â Leyton spoke frankly, his unspoken thoughts echoing, âMr. Arnold once loved you deeply, and itâs you who didnât appreciate it. Now that you want to return to him, it might be too late!â
Donna didnât think she would end up in this super awkward situation, getting kicked out by Ethan. She had heard all those rumors about that girl, but she thought they were all just lies.
When she found out Ethan had a girl living with him at the Arnold residence, she didnât buy it.
After all, Ethan used to be head over heels for Donna. He had wanted her around all the time, like 24/7, never letting her out of ais sight.
Donna liked smoking, drinking, and hanging out in some notâsoâgreat bars. Ethan tried to get her to change her habits, but o matter what he did, she just did things her own way and wouldnât listen to him.
ater on, he decided to go along with her lifestyle. He started smoking and drinking with her and got tattoos that matched ers.
Cence, Donna believed that no matter what she did, Ethan would always care about her. She even thought that if she had to cave someday, Ethan would wait for her to come back.
Doma thought to herself, âWhy doesnât he beep his promtes?!
She had been alone in a foreign land when she received these photos from a private investigator.
These images showed him intimately involved with another woman, prompting her to yearn for the truth.
When she finally saw the photo on his office deels at Arnold Corporation, the undeniable proof shattered her world.
Gasing at the imposting Arnold Corporation building, Donna struggled to contain the bitterness welling up within her. With a heavy heart, she left the scene behind As she walked away, tears welled up unexpectedly, smudging her makeup. Lost in her thoughts, she walked aimlessly, oblivious to the curious stares and distancing gestures of passersby.
A few minutes later, a black car pulled up in front of Donna, and a bodyguard in a black suit got out of the car.
âAls Jolie,â he said, âMrs. Arnold Sr. is aware of your retum, She requests your presence. Please step into the car.â
Collecting herself, Donna entered the front passenger seat, using the tissues provided to fix her smeared makeup. As she did So, she muttered, âHow is that old woman still alive after all these years?â
The chantfem cautioned, âMs. Jolie, please be careful with your words!â
Ignoring her recent emotional breakdown, Donna retorted, âI used to call her that, and Ethan never objected. Who are you to lecture mo?â
The chauffeur maintained a stole silence, An hour and a half passed before Donna arrived at the Arnold residence.
She confidently navigated the familiar path, passing the entrance where a servant halted her progress.
âMs. Jolie, Mrs. Arnold Sr. awaits you here,â
Donna, full of arrogance, followed the servant to the front of the mansion where Ethan lived.
Evelyn Anderson, dressed modestly, sat on a stone bench in the yard, sipping roasted beet soup.
âIt has been quite a while, Mrs. Arnold Sr.,â Donna remarked, her disbelief evident. âI never anticipated youâd still be among the living!â
Evelyn didnât respond to her but continued to enjoy her soup. With a smile, she said to a nearby servant, âMadelynâs cooking is much better than yours.â
Marta, who had been taking care of Evelyn for many years, chimed in, âYes! The texture is so tender, it melts in your mouth, and the sweetness is just right. Her cooking is almost as good as the chefs we hire.â
Donna had no idea what game Evelyn was playing. After finishing her roasted beet soup, Evelyn stood up and asked Marta to leave them alone for a while. Evelyn then turned her attention to Donna.
After a long pause, Evelyn shook her head, her displeasure evident. âYouâre still the same after all these years. You returned so eagerly, perhaps to size up Ethanâs current companion. Well, youâve seen her now.â
Donna clenched her teeth and questioned, âIs all of this a scheme orchestrated by you?â
Evelyn leaned on her cane and fixed her gaze on Donna. She responded, âI promised not to meddle in your relationship with him all those years ago. Iâve upheld that promise.â
âItâs impossible! If it werenât for your meddling, how could he have fallen for someone else? You must have arranged for that girl to be near him!â
One of the bodyguards, sensing Donnaâs escalating emotions, took a step forward but was halted by Evelynâs gesture. Evelyn continued, âBlame yourself for not failing to appreciate him. Ethan spent so many years with you, and for your sake, he did countless things against our familyâs rules. His academic performance suffered as well. He even raced cars with you, had a nearâfatal accident, and barely made it back. How many times was his life in jeopardy? Howâ¦
