Chapter 406
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
The reporters kept on taking pictures of the car.
Jadie handed a bottle of water to Madelyn as she worriedly said, âYou donât look well. Are you okay?â
Madelyn took the water, but she did not drink it. She responded, âIâm fine.â She looked out the window and asked, âWhere are we going?â
Jadie did not know either. She asked the person beside her, âZach, where are we going?â
âMadelyn, whereâd you like to go?â Zach threw the question back to Madelyn. It seemed like he was hinting at something. Madelyn put the water bottle at her side. The direction they were heading was likely toward the Jent residence.
Madelyn noticed that. Zach looked at her through the rearview mirror again. She looked away and faintly said, âDrop me off by the roadside. Heâll come and pick me up later.â
Zach disagreed, âI donât feel comfortable leaving you alone out there. Itâs not even nine oâclock yet.
Letâs go back to Southern Haven Villas, and we can discuss anything else later.â He did not allow Madelyn to reject him.
So, Madelyn just remained silent.
Mya sent Madelyn a text to ask how she was. Madelyn replied: [Donât worry. Iâm fine now.]
Mya responded: [Thatâs great.]
Madelyn then told Ethan what happened. He told her he would come and pick her up after he finished his work.
Mya texted Madelyn again: [Anyway, your brother is so cool today! The things that he said to the reporters and how he took you away in front of so many people⦠he was so cool. You have no idea that those reporters were actually frightened by him.]
Madelyn frowned as she replied: [What did he say?]
Mya answered: [Youâll know when you see the news online tomorrow. I canât explain it all.] She also added a poking fingers emoticon behind her sentence.
They then arrived at Southern Haven Villas.
Madelyn thought, âFather is probably already resting upstairs at this hour, or he might still be out. I hope I wonât see him. Or else, heâll scold me.â
The three of them walked into the house one after another. Rosario was still preparing some late-night snacks in the kitchen. She said, âJadie, youâre back. Iâve made bourbon balls. You mentioned that you wanted to eat that, so I made some. Come and try it.â
âRosario, Madelyn is back too. Can you serve some for her too? Iâll help you.â
âSure, sureâ¦â Rosario was very happy when she heard that Madelyn was back. She continued, âIâm preparing the bourbon. balls for you all to eat now.â
Madelyn was holding her backpack. She stood still as she smiled faintly, âItâs fine. I donât really like to eat sweet things. Iâll go and do my homework now.â When she finished her sentence, she already took her backpack and sat on the couch.
Rosario asked, âDo you want to eat pastina? You used to love pastina, right?â
Madelyn replied, âIâm not hungry!â
Zach butted in and said, âMake two. Eat some before you go back.â He put the car key on the coffee table and sat beside Madelyn.
Madelyn tightened her grip on the pen in her hand. She just remained silent and thought, âZach is very observant. He probably knows that Iâm avoiding him. Why did he still come so close to me?â
Madelyn felt very uncomfortable being stared at by him.
Zach crossed his legs and said, âI heard youâre currently second in your grade, right? After you get into Ventropolis University, what do you want to do? Do you want to study abroad or continue learning your art?â
Madelyn gave a superficial answer, âIâm not sure yet. Iâll see when the time comes.â
Jadie walked over with the bourbon balls, âZach, Rosario made too many. I canât finish them all. Can you help me eat some?â
