Chapter 414
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
âIâm a picky eater. I want to have my cinnamon oatmeal now.â
âIâll make it for you,â Madelyn said as she put down her backpack.
Ethan grabbed Madelynâs hand and said to the old woman, âYouâre an old servant of the Arnold family, so you should know some manners. Besides, youâll get indigestion by having food this late at night.
Marta, send her home.â
âYes, sir,â answered Marta.
âHold on⦠Marta, do we have grated cinnamon?â
âYes,â Marta replied.
âI donât have a lot of homework today. Iâll make some oatmeal for you. It should be ready in about 40 minutes.â
Evelyn chuckled and said, âThank you.â
âNo worries.â
âThatâs how the elderly are. The older they get, the less they sleep,â she thought.
Madelyn went to the kitchen.
Evelyn sighed, âYou and her are like the oatmeal and cinnamon in here. When cooked together, the taste is the same. But if you add or remove something, the taste changes. Think about what I said. Tell her that she doesnât need to make the oatmeal. Madelyn has a test the day after tomorrow, right? You shouldnât disturb her in the next two days. Wait until her test is over before you talk things out with her.
Donât let her overthinkâ
She continued, âThis child is more patient and understanding than you think she is. But the more she behaves this way, the harder it will be for you to win her back if you wrong her. Cherish her. From what it looks like, she seems qualified to be the daughter-in-law of the Arnold farmily.â
After Evelyn left, Ethan dismissed the other servants. He stared at the woman in the kitchen, and his gaze darkened.
Ethan had been suffering ever since they started giving each other the silent treatment. When he thought of how she did not like him that much and only used him as a shield, he could not help but lose control over his emotions.
âPerhaps⦠Itâs my pride,â he reasoned.
Ethan did not want to admit defeat, but he had imagined countless times how he would feel if Madelyn were to leave. He would suffer and be in even more pain.
Just as Madelyn was pouring some water, she felt a pair of hands on her waist. The man hugged her and rested his chin on her shoulder. Madelyn stiffened and paused, âWhatâs the matter?â
âIâm sorry! I shouldâve considered your feelings. Iâve already asked Leyton to handle the reporters. And those magazines⦠they wonât be sold anymore,â he said as he breathed in Madelynâs familiar scent.
The initial irritancy he felt vanished.
Madelyn had never imagined he would apologize. After all, he was a prideful man.
âItâs fine. Iâm fine. You donât have to apologize to me.â
âItâs my fault for not taking your feelings into consideration.â
Madelyn actually felt touched hearing him say sorry. This was the first time somebody had said these words to her.
In her past life, Zach had wronged her many times.
She waited an entire lifetime to hear him say these words, but all she got was his indifference and impatience.
Madelyn turned around and hugged his neck. There was not much emotion in her eyes.
âI should apologize to him⦠becauseâ¦â she thought.
