Chapter 438
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Madelyn had initially expected to face Haysonâs scolding, but it seemed he was not at home since Jasmine was pregnant. Zach mentioned that she had been pregnant for over two months, and Hayson was confident that it was his child. Hayson had taken Jasmine to Sinagora to ensure a healthy pregnancy, so Madelyn would be the only one left at home from now on.
âIt turns out that Father hasnât cared about my well-being these past few days.â The expectations she had disappeared in an instant.
Approaching the familiar yet unfamiliar living room, Rosario came over with teary eyes. âMadelyn, youâve been through so much these past few daysâ¦â
Madelyn looked at her with indifference. âI donât understand. If Rosario truly cared for me and treated me like her child, why would she put something in my milk? And now she has to pretend to care about me! Whatâs the reason for all of this?â
Rosario was also one of Zachâs trusted individuals, which left Madelyn wary about who around her was truly sincere toward her. She discreetly evaded Rosarioâs hand, and even her gaze toward her seemed like that of a stranger. Facing Rosario, Madelyn was at a loss for words. She headed upstairs, unable to accept the idea that someone like Rosario, whom she considered family, could betray her.
Zach left, but before leaving, he asked Margaret to take good care of Madelyn. She was still emotionally unstable, so Zach had Rosario stay at Grand Court instead.
After they left, Madelyn immediately grabbed a pile of snacks and bread before going into her room and locking herself in. She was afraid someone might come in, so she used everything she could find, including bedside tables, desks, and chairs, to block the doors.
Madelynâs words and actions were abnormal and uncontrollable. She was afraid she was going insane.
She knew what she was doing and did not want to be this way, but she just wanted to use this method to isolate and heal herself so she could escape the emotional emptiness she felt.
âThereâs no one who can save me now except myself.â
Madelyn closed the curtains. It was only when the room plunged into darkness that she felt safe.
At mealtime, Margaret carried the dishes upstairs and knocked on the door. However, there was no response, even after several attempts.
The room had good soundproofing. Apart from the knocking on the door, Madelyn could not hear any voices from outside even after the knocking had stopped.
In the evening, Zach brought Jadie to the Jent residence. Jadie passed her backpack to the servant and asked, âZach, can I go check on Madelyn?â
Before Zach could respond, Margaret hesitated and said, âMr. Jardin, after Ms. Jent returned, she grabbed some snacks, went into her room, and hasnât come downstairs since. She hasnât touched a single bite of the meal I prepared for her.â
Suddenly, Zach connected Madelynâs living situation in her rental apartment with what Kai had mentioned.
âMadelyn has severe depression. Itâs evident from the medication sheâs taking.â
âIâll go check on her,â he said.
Jadie said, âIâll go with you.â
âNo, just wait downstairs.â Then, Zach thought of something and picked up his phone to make a call.
âWhatâs up? Spit it out. Iâm busy.â Kai picked up the line after half a minute. He looked at the woman he had pinned against the wall, with one hand gripping her waist and the other answering the phone, Zach asked, âHow is depression treated?â
