Chapter 441
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Zach said nothing and turned to head downstairs. When he reached the lower floor, he instructed Margaret, âMake some chicken soup and give it to Madelyn when she wakes up.â
Margaret nodded, âOkay.â
Jadie gripped Zachâs arm and asked, âZach, you havenât answered my question. Whatâs going on with Madelyn? Is she still upset about the Math Olympiad? Actually, she still has a chance.â
âThatâs enough. Iâll handle Madelynâs matters myself.â Zachâs mind was already in turmoil, and now another voice buzzing in his ear only added to his headaches.
Jadie was stunned, holding back tears. Zach had never scolded her once from childhood to adulthood.
He would never blame her, even though he knew it was her fault, âZach, did I say something wrong?
You scolded me but I was just concerned about Madelyn.â
Zach looked at her calmly, âAfter finishing your meal, go back and review your homework. Iâve already sent Rosario to the apartment. From now on, you donât have to come unless I bring you here.â
After speaking, Zach went upstairs and Jadie followed him, âWhy canât I come here? Weâve been living here together for so many years. Anywhere with you is my home. Iâve considered this place my own home for a long time. Is this because I took Madelynâs spot in the Math Olympiad training class back then? Zach, if thatâs what you think, I can skip the follow-up competition.â
Zach stopped. His expression showed irritation even though he had been trying to restrain himself.
âJadie, youâre not a kid anymore. You shouldnât expect me to manage everything for you. Stop beng so immature. The Jent residence belongs to the Jent family, not the Jardin or White families. Figure out your role. I donât want to hear that from you again in the future.â
Margaret shivered and looked back. âOh my! I couldnât believe she dared to say she considered this place her home. Theyâve generously taken her in, but she acts like sheâs the precious daughter of the house, showing na sense of manners at all.â
âZach, you canât just ignore me! Zach Jardin!â It was the first time Jadie had called his full name.
Zach wearily returned to the study in his room. Aside from the master bedroom, his room was the largest. In front of his laptop screen, he closed his eyes and leaned back in the chair. Voices echoed in his head.
âRemember this person. Itâs all because of him. You must remember it and settle the score, or Iâll never find peace in this lifetime.â
âOkay, Iâll remember!â
At three in the morning, with the bedroom door left ajar, Zach heard footsteps descending the stairs.
The sound came just in time, jolting him awake from a nightmare and drenching him in a cold sweat.
Picking up the watch from the table, it read twelve past three. âI slept for so long.â
Zach stretched, feeling a sharp pain in his shoulder. Without much time to dwell on it, he got up and walked to the door. He happened to see Madelyn coming down the stairs. Zach followed and saw her in fuzzy slippers, opening the front door and stepping outside.
âWhatâs she trying to do in the middle of the night?â Zach frowned and followed her. He watched as Madelyn went to the backyard and sat on the swing, completely motionless.
