Chapter 477
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Madelyn put the glass of water on the bedside table, âWhether I come back or not, you should still take good care of yourself. Itâs your own health, and your own body.â
When she withdrew her hand, Ethan grabbed it and said, âYou said youâd give me time to think it over. Is that still valid now?â
Madelyn smiled slightly, âIf you want me to come back, Iâll come backâ¦â
She believed there was no equality between them and that she would always be the one who needed to bow down. The reason she came back was not only because of Evelyn, but also because of her father.
She had heard the whole phone conversation between Zach and Hayson last night. If she could not marry into the Arnold family, she would be treated like a commodity and given to someone else to pave the way for the Jent family and Zach.
Madelyn thought, âIâm his child, arenât I? I donât understand why Father favors Zach so much! I work so hard to change, to become better, but Father never values me.â
When she had heard that conversation, a chill had run down her spine as she realized her only value was as a tool for the Jent familyâs marriage. Moreover, she could not bear children, so her life would be more miserable.
She believed she could never escape the Jent family, and even if she did, her father would have many ways to bring her back.
Not to mention, she could not stop Zach from doing anything to her. That night when Ethan went to the Southern Haven Villas in the rain just to find her, that alone had proved everything.
The moment she saw him, it would be a lie if she said she felt indifferent. She had no choice now. Ethan said, âMadelyn, you know, what I want is for you to come back willingly. This time⦠Iâll never, ever let you go.â
Madelyn lowered her eyes, looking at his hands holding hers. Her palm was sweating. She wanted to listen to her inner voice, but she did not really feel any emotions. At this moment, she did not know what she truly felt. Her mind was blank as she said, âOkay.
âThatâs the last time. From now on, if you ever have someone you like, you have to tell me. I wonât cling to you and not let you go. If you lie to me, Ethan⦠Iâll feel sad too.â
Ethan responded, âFrom now on, there wonât be anyone else besides you.â
Madelyn thought, âLife is short, so Iâll give it another try. Even if itâs a wrong decision, I still have a chance to start over. At least⦠many things have changed in this life compared to the last oneâ¦â
In the end, Madelyn decided to stay. The room next door remained the same. The servants would clean it daily, but they dared not touch her things.
The supplementary card that Ethan had given her that she had put on the table when she left was still there. The villaâs front door key was in its original place and remained untouched too. Everything remained the same.
Madelynâs arrival was like a blessing to the servants in the villa. Ethanâs family doctor examined him and found no maior issues. He just needed to receive intravenous antibiotics. The doctor thought, âRemoving so many tattoos in such a short time isnât something a normal person would do.â
The doctor said, âMake sure the patient takes medication on time every day, and pay attention to his diet. If the weather is good, he should go outside and get some sunlight. Itâll help the wounds heal.â
As Madelyn listened attentively, she quietly noted down the information. She responded, âOkay. I got it. Thank you so much.â The doctor responded, âYouâre welcome. Itâs my job.â
Madelyn accompanied the family doctor to the door of the room. Only then did she realize it was already dark outside. It had been over three hours since she left home.
The phone in her pocket vibrated. Her back was facing Ethan when she took her phone out to glance at it. It was a text message from Zach: [Come back before eight-thirty.]
Madelyn pretended as if she did not see the message and deleted it. Ethan asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
