Chapter 507
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
The night was quiet. The wind rustled through the branches outside the window, causing the heavy curtains to billow. The weather in April was not too cold. The medicinal scent filled the air as the wind blew into the ward.
Jadie woke up but did not want to face Zach. So, she turned her head to gaze at the billowing curtains.
âYou donât want me anymore, so why are you still at the hospital? Just go back. I donât need you to take care of me.â
Zach picked up a medicine from the bedside table. The thick, black liquid inside emitted an unpleasant odor. Upon hearing what Jadie said, he answered, âOkay.â Then, he put the medicine back down.
He stood up and checked his wristwatch. âItâs 12:12 a.m. now. Iâll give you ten minutes to calm down.
Think it over, and Iâll come back in.â
âZach!â Jadie called out to him urgently.
Zach stopped and asked, âAre you calm now?â
Jadie bit her lip and nodded, âYes.â
Zach sat down by the bedside and tucked her in. âDrink it before it gets cold. Iâll take you back after youâve finished the intravenous drip. You donât have to rush to school tomorrow. Iâve already arranged for you to have the day off.â
Jadie tightly clasped Zachâs hand with both of hers. Her face pale, and she pleaded, âZach, can we just forget what happened earlier? Iâm still your girlfriend. Letâs not break up, okay? Even if you donât like me now, you might like me in the future. I know youâre into girls like Madelyn. I can change for you and become the girl youâre into. Iâll do anything as long as we donât break up.â
Having feelings for someone could make a person feel vulnerable. They had gone through so much together since childhood until now. Jadie secretly resolved that she would become his wife in the future, and this was something that would never change. That was why her voice was both pleading and restrained.
âJadie, your life has more than just this one choice. What if you meet someone even better than me in the three years of university ahead?â
Tears welled up in Jadieâs eyes as she shook her head, âNo, there will never be anyone better than you.â
Zach let out a deep sigh, âNothing is absolute in life. Jadie, can we make a promise? If you donât find anyone you like when you graduate from university, and Iâm not married or have no children, weâll get married, okay?â
Jadie hesitated, âWhat if you change your mind?â
âI would never lie to you.â Seeing no reaction from her, Zach continued, âI want to give you a chance to think it through. Marriage is a lifelong commitment, and I may not be as good as you imagine. Jadie, you know I have important matters to do at Azure Corporation.â
Jadieâs expression suddenly changed as she remembered why Randall had died. Zachâs actions had all been for her. She had accidentally fallen into the pool at the banquet and almost⦠She nearly drowned, and it was all because of Randall. Later, Zach avenged her by killing Randall. His actions aligned with his goals at Azure Corporation. Zach carried many secrets, and Jadie had never known what they were.
â1âI know, but can you promise me? Please donât be with anyone until Iâve fallen for someone else, okay? If the time frame is three years, Iâm willing to wait these three years and then marry you.â
A mysterious smile played on Zachâs lips. âOkay.â
âYou canât lie to me.â
âYes, I wonât.â Zach might have given her all the patience he had for a lifetime.
