After finishing the line drawing, Madelyn photographed it and sent it to the client for confirmation.
Taking advantage of the break, she massaged her shoulders and went to the water cooler for a drink.
She checked her phone. It was almost seven in the evening. She saw many messages from Zach. She wondered how he got her number. She turned her phone off.
Soon, the client emailed her back. They liked her drawing. Madelyn was about to color it when someone bumped into her. She looked up. Jane said, âWatch where youâre going.â

By eightâthirty, the studio was empty except for her. At tenâthirty, she dozed off. Suddenly, she felt someone picking her up. Waking up. she saw Zach. She was startled. âWhat are you doing? Put me down!â
âPlanning to sleep here if I hadnât shown up?â Zach glanced at her.
âIâm not done with my work,â Madelyn replied.
âYou can finish it tomorrow. Letâs head back for the night.â
âJust let me get my stuff.â
Zach put her down. Madelyn went back to her desk and saw Jane. She hesitated a bit. Zach called out, âDo you have a lot to pack?â
Madelyn grabbed her halfâdone painting. âIâll finish this at home.â They went downstairs and into the car. When Zach tried to help her with the seatbelt, she said. âI got it, thanks.â
Soon, they arrived at the hotel.
Walking into the busy lobby, Madelyn tried to keep pace behind Zach. Without warning, he reached back, capturing her hand.
âI can walk on my own,â she insisted, but his grip was firm.
