Chapter 639
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
The night in France looked a lot like Venturia. The city lights shone like diamonds.
Zach gazed at the view from the eightyâeighth floor, his eyes all Icy. He had a cigarette hanging from his lips, and he had to block the wind with his hand to light it.
A puff of smoke drifted away from Zach, and Cecilia Samford moved closer, sounding kinda Irritated as she asked, âZach, Iâve given in to you twice already. What more do you want? You know you canât be with Madelyn.â
Cecilia, just like Madelyn, had been reborn. She had thought that by getting involved early, she could get a bigger share of Jardin Corporation after helping Zach start it up, so she could control him. But now, everything seemed to be going all wrong.
Cecilia realized that Zachâs connection with Madelyn was tangled and tricky. Even though Cecilia and Zach had been tight in a previous life, now she sensed she was just a piece in his quest for power.
Zach glanced at Cecilia. He noticed that she bore a strong resemblance to Jadie, but Jadie didnât have that authoritative presence.
He couldnât ignore the fact that Cecilia was just as sharp in business as he was. She always seemed to understand his desires. If there were no other options, she would be a solid choice for him.
However, Zach wasnât fond of being controlled, and he didnât appreciate it when someone pushed him.
âRight now, itâs all about business. Why do you think you have the right to talk about my personal stuff?â
âAs your future wife, donât I have that right?â Cecilia replied firmly. Indeed, they were acting like a married couple in the midst of an argument.
A wisp of smoke veiled Zachâs dim eyes. He flicked his cigarette, letting the ashes drop into the ashtray. âAre you really that sure Iâm going to marry you?â
âAre you planning to burn bridges? Zach Jardin, remember whoâs been helping you get where you are now. And donât forget the conditions you agreed to before.â
Zach tilted his head, sending her a clear signal of warning.
Three years ago, when Cecilia was reborn, she had spilled all the details about their past life to Zach at the hospital âI know you wonât believe me right now. But trust me, once I finish college, Iâll be there to help you rise to the top. Iâll be your rightâhand person, a real force to reckon with.â
Zach found it amusing and replied, âJust take care of yourself.â
Cecilia stopped him, saying. âYou might not believe me now, but if I keep my promise, marry me! Thatâs my only condition.â
Zach didnât say much in response. Even if he did, it wasnât easy for him to trust someone he found a bit strange.
His eyes held darkness and uncertainty as he looked at Cecilia. He had only helped her because her eyes reminded him of Madelynâs, the innocent and naive girl who had vanished back then.
After some digging, Zach learned that Ceciliaâs family was going through financial troubles, and her mother was disabled.
Ultimately, he chose to cover Ceciliaâs tuition fees. It wasnât solely because he had the money to do so;
there was a crucial reason behind it: Cecilia was exceptionally sharp. He viewed the money he invested in her education as a valuable opportunity. And it yielded results beyond his expectations.
Zach asked, âYou seriously believe that I couldnât have gotten to where I am today without you?
âLetâs, for a moment, suppose that all this talk about past lives is true.
âIf thatâs the case, my old me in past life already had everything Iâve got now. It implies it was destined to occur. Itâs just a matter of sooner or later, and youâve merely helped speed things up.â
He flicked away the cigarette butt and continued, âConsidering your familyâs financial situation, with a monthly paycheck of just a grand or two, can you handle your momâs medical bills, not to mention the yearly tuition at Ventropolis University? And donât forget about the rent in Ventropolis!â
