Chapter 644
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Madelyn was late. When she arrived at the company, Jane, the head of this studio, was in a discussion.
The sound of her hurried steps caused everyone to look her way. Catching her breath, Madelyn said, clutching her chest, âIâm sorry Iâm late.â
Jane glanced at Madelyn and tapped the table for emphasis. âI was talking about the email from Encounter Gaming. If youâre confused about anything, come ask me. Weâre on a tight schedule, and I expect everyone to give their best. Itâs important, especially for your final presentations.
âMeeting adjourned!â
Once the meeting wrapped up, everyone dove back into their work.
It was like Madelyn wasnât even there.
Clement approached with paperwork in hand. âMadelyn,â he began, but she interrupted him, âClement, werenât we already swamped with one project? Why did we take another?â
Clement replied, âItâs done. We hustled the past few days, and as of yesterday, weâve turned everything in.â
Madelyn paused for a moment. âBâBut⦠Yesterday, I contacted the person in charge from Encounter Gaming about the sketches, and he said they were fine.â
Clement responded, âI asked about that this morning. During the past few days when you were on sick leave, Jane stepped in and handled your tasks. Sheâs been burning the midnight oil to get it done. As for the person in charge you mentioned, Iâm not entirely sure. Maybe ask Jane?â
Madelyn glanced at Jane who was sitting at her desk. She then looked away and pursed her lips as she smiled faintly, âI got it. Thank you, Clement.
âBy the way, whatâs my task for the new project we just took on?â
âLet me check.â Clement flipped through the documents. He looked at the end of the documents and said, âFor this new project, Encounter Gaming is working on a shooting game. And we need to design a few female characters. Youâll be responsible for this character.â
Madelyn responded, âOkay. Thank you.â
She put down her bag before looking at the sketches in her hand that were almost completed. She was disappointed. This was her firstâtime taking charge of a project. She thought she could handle it very well. However, she still messed it up in the end.
This time, it was her fault that she wasted time. She could not blame anyone else.
She thought, âEven if I feel regretful now, thereâs nothing I can do to fix it. The sketches in my hand now have turned into wasted drafts.â
Madelyn threw the sketches into the trash can.
Soon after, Jane rose from her seat. âGood news! Encounter Gamingâs bonus just came through. The finance team will distribute it to everyoneâs bank accounts shortly.â
Everyone stood up, clapped, and cheered. They said, âThank you!â
The bonus was a handsome amount, no wonder everyone was elated.
âButâ¦â Janeâs gaze settled on Madelyn, her tone turning frosty. âMadelyn, your delays forced the team to pull several all- nighters. Therefore, you wonât be receiving a share. Are you okay with that?â
Madelyn, without hesitation, replied, âI understand.â
Clement jumped to Madelynâs defense. âJane, you should know that she was sick during the days she was absent. She didnât miss work for no reason. Moreover, there were still several days left until the submission deadline. With Madelynâs skills, she wouldâve easily caught up.â
Jane responded, âClement, did I not tell you? Encounter Gaming asked us to complete the project as quickly as possible. Everyone had their parts ready, and we couldnât wait just because one person lagged behind.â
She coldly added, âReasons for falling behind donât concern me.â
