Chapter 760
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Margaret stepped back and gestured aimlessly, âOh my gosh! Ms. Jent, Iâve got to say, this child really looks like you and Mr. Jardin. Look at his eyes, nose, and mouth. Itâs like a combination of both of you!â
âA combination?â
Madelyn lowered her gaze and forced a smile, pretending not to care, âIâm no longer able to conceive.
If this child does happen to resemble me, itâs probably just a coincidence.â
From the beginning, Madelyn was also skeptical. But as time passed, this child, who was initially malnourished and skinny, had become plump and healthy. When she watched him at night, there was a voice in her heart telling her, âLook at how much this child looks like you. Heâs your child.â
Madelyn knew very well that she could not get pregnant in this lifetime. Besides, she had never had a child. So, the fact that this child looked like she and Zach were nothing more than a coincidence. There was a chance for people to look similar, even without any blood relation. Perhaps this child was a gift from God, intentionally sent to be with her.
Coincidentally, Zach, who had just finished taking a shower upstairs, overheard this conversation while holding a yellow money pouch.
Ding!
Margaret immediately noticed the item in his hand, âI-Itâs so thick.â
âLet Margaret feed him the medicine. Come and have dinner now,â Zach said as he walked over, dressed in comfortable pajamas with half-dried hair, handing over the pouch.
Margaret hesitated to take it, âMr. Jardin, the salary for this month has already been paid!â Although she said that, her eyes remained fixed without leaving.
Zach replied, âItâs a bonus.â
Margaret immediately snatched it, âOh my goodness! Thank you, Mr. Jardin! Youâre such a kind person.
May you enjoy good health and safety throughout your long life.â
Her eyes were like a ruler. She could tell how much money was in the pouch with a glance and touch.
Her eyes sparkled even more. In the end, she was so joyous that words could not describe it. Her inner delight left her almost speechless, âF-Fifty thousand?â
Zach had heard many comments from the outside world about him, which usually described him as ruthless and willing to do anything. Some even use worse words to describe him.
âPraising me as a kind person? Thatâs a novel idea!â Zach thought.
Margaret took the substantial sum of her bonus. Without saying a word, she took the bowl from Madelynâs hand, cradled the child in her other arm, and said, âMs. Jent, Iâll take care of feeding the medicine. You and Mr. Jardin go ahead and eat.â
âWaitâ¦â Madelyn wanted to say something more, but Margaret had already run off with the child.
Zach took her hand and adjusted their fingers to intertwine, even though they were near the sofa, which was just a few steps from the dining room.
Madelyn asked, âHow much did you give her?â
Zach smiled, âJust a little. Fifty thousand dollars.
âIâll pay you back later.â
Zach looked at her, âNo need to rush for it now.â
Madelyn gave him a stern look, thinking, âWhy does he always think about this stuff? Such a small amount wouldnât mean much to him. Heâs not lacking in wealth these days.â
Sitting next to him, Madelyn sipped the chicken soup he handed her and asked, âZach⦠Can I visit my father tomorrow?â
âOkay,â Zach replied. As long as she was obedient, there was nothing that he could not satisfy her with.
After dinner, Madelyn returned to her room. As soon as she walked in, she noticed a bottle of red wine worth seven figures on the side table and a sheer nightgown neatly arranged on the bed. She sensed what it meant, but it was already too late when she tried to turn and run.
