Chapter 790
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
The group dispersed.
Seeing Kevin approaching, Blakeâs nervousness became apparent. She quickly spoke, âWhat they were gossiping about had nothing to do with me, Mr. Harrison. Iâm the newbie here, and I have no idea what they were talking about.â
Kevin, a long-time associate of Zachâs, had a presence that resembled his superiorâs. In the company, facing Kevin was almost as intimidating as encountering the CEO himself. His mere presence commanded respect and awe from everyone.
Kevin, slightly irritated, asked, âCan you handle kids?â
Caught off guard, Blake took a moment to process the question.
Kevinâs tone remained impatient as he repeated, âI asked if you could take care of kids. Didnât you hear?â
Blake replied, âOf course! I can take care of kids of all ages.â
Kevinâs phone buzzed incessantly. Dalton had cried so much that his voice was almost gone, but now he was quiet. Blake took the child, and Kevin left in a hurry As soon as she held Dalton, he began crying again.
Oh no. I donât know how to comfort kids. Why did I agree to this?â Blake thought.
An hour later, Zach wrapped up a meeting that was originally scheduled for two hours but had to be cut short due to Daltonâs presence. Realizing he had forgotten something, he swiftly pulled out his phone and dialed a saved number.
Meanwhile, Madelyn was preparing to take a nap when a maid entered the room, holding a phone.
âMs. Jent,â the servant began, âMr. Jardin couldnât reach you on your phone, so he called here. He mentioned that he has something important to discuss.
Madelyn sighed. âHe can tell me when he gets back. I need to rest now.â
The servant hesitated and then added, âHeâs still on the line, waiting.â
Madelynâs brow furrowed. âHand me the phone.â
She took the phone and said, âWhat now?â
From the CEOâs office, Zach explained, âI realized I forgot the milk at home. Can you bring it here?
Jordan can drive you.â
Madelyn sat on the bed, her grip on the blanket tightening. âI donât want to go. Just have Jordan deliver it.â
Zach took off his suit jacket and sat down, flipping through some papers. Over the phone, he continued, â Madelyn, Daltonâs crying here at the office. Can you come calm him down?â
âYouâre the one who brought him. Handle it. I need to rest.â Madelynâs tóne was sharp. She handed the phone to the maid and instructed, âDonât disturb me unless itâs urgent. Iâll take calls after my nap.â
âUnderstood, Ms. Jent.â
Once the maid left, Madelyn settled under the covers, her thoughts drifting to a past event. She recalled a time when she had tried to surprise Zach by delivering lunch to his office. Unfamiliar with the address, she sought help from several acquaintances before taking a cab.
The scorching heat that day nearly gave her a heatstroke. When she arrived at Jardin Tower, the lunch was already cold. As she approached the entrance, she noticed Zach leaving with Cecilia. He gave her a cold glance and drove off. Later at home, he firmly told her not to show up at his office unannounced.
She had respected his wish since then.
