Chapter 804
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
âIâm fine; it doesnât hurt,â Mya said, trying not to worry Madelyn. Myaâs hands were once delicate and soft. After a few challenging years, they bore several burn scars and had become rough.
Kevin approached, âMs. Jent, we need to leave; itâs late.â
Then, a police officer approached Mya, âWe need you to testify about the suspect. Could you come with us to the station?â
Mya nodded, âOkay. Madelyn, Iâm heading out.â
Madelyn replied, âTake care.â
Mya hesitated, âIâm nervous about going alone, Madelyn.â
Before Madelyn could respond, Kevin jumped in, âDonât worry, Ms. Jent. Iâll accompany her. I have some business there anyway.â
Madelyn said, âThanks, Kevin. Just make sure sheâs safe.â
Kevin replied, âOf course.â
After everyone was gone, Madelyn walked over to the luxury car. A bodyguard opened the door for her, and she got in. Next to her, Zach poured some red wine into a glass.
âTry it.â
Madelyn fixed her dress and looked away, âItâs been a long time since I had a drink.â
He rolled up his sleeves and held out the glass, âJust a sip?â
She shook her head, âIâm allergic to alcohol.â
She used to drink to forget her problems, always taking an allergy pill beforehand. Zach looked surprised. He had not known about her alcohol allergy.
âWhy didnât you mention this earlier?â
âIt just never came up.â
Once at a bar, Madelyn had a bad reaction to a drink. Zach quickly took her to the hospital. Despite knowing about her alcohol allergy, he seemed to forget or overlook it. Around the same time, Jadie was sick with a fever. After making sure Madelyn was treated, Zach rushed to care for Jadie, and Madelyn was left alone in the hospital.
Zach quickly drained his glass of red wine, âFrom now on, Iâll support you in not drinking.â
Madelyn peered out the car window, arms folded, âYou donât need to change anything. This is my issue.â
Silence filled the car.
A bit later, Zach spoke up, Iâve adjusted my work plans. How about we fly to France tomorrow? Once weâre there, you can choose the wedding spot and dress.â He took her hand, giving a gentle kiss to her fingertips as he waited for her answer.
