Chapter 812
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Madelyn could only belong to him, and only himâ¦
A week had passed, and Zach had been lying next to her. He did not dare to make any big movements as he held her close.
Zach had never expected that Madelyn would leave him.
He had neither power nor money back then, so he could not provide her with the best. Now that he finally had everything, he could easily give her whatever she wanted.
In the dark room, Zach buried his face in Madelynâs neck with his eyes closed, âShould I have been more heartless since the beginning? If you had never met him, youâd be mine forever.â
At midnight, Kai returned to his office, drained. He noticed light seeping through the door crack, and he immediately turned cautious.
He pushed the door open and saw Lana lying on the sofa, appearing to be asleep. Then, his alertness went away.
Lana was sleeping soundly when she suddenly felt an itch on her face. She opened her eyes and was met with a pair of affectionate, almond-shaped eyes. Kai was scrutinizing her with his dark gaze. When their eyes met, Kai brushed her hair aside and said in a gentle voice, âYou can go to the lounge to sleep next time.â
Lana instantly woke up and was shocked when she saw the bruise on Kaiâs face. She sat up straight and avoided his gaze. Then, she hurriedly fixed her hair and said, âTook you long enough. Can we proceed with the surgery now? Donât forget what you promised me.â
âI donât have the time now,â Kai said.
Lana glowered at him and threw the pillow she had been holding at him, âHow could you go back on your word? Y-You said that youâd save him if I slept with you!â
Kai chuckled, âHow could you ever believe anything a pervert like me say?â
Lanaâs face turned extremely pale. Kaiâs words felt like a hard slap across her face. She felt so humiliated that her fingers trembled.
Lana was at a loss for words.
Kaiâs heart softened when he saw tears welling up in Lanaâs eyes, âI was just joking with you. Did you take it seriously?
âAndrew will be fine. Iâll make arrangements for the surgery once Iâm free.â
Lana wiped away her tears silently, âOkay. Tell me, how much longer do I have to wait?â
âHand me the documents on the desk,â Kai said.
He was avoiding Lanaâs question again.
She clenched her fists tightly and reluctantly walked to his desk. There were a few documents on the desk, and she was unsure which one he was referring to.
So, she took all of them.
When she turned around, she saw Kai lying on the sofa with his eyes closed. He was already sleeping.
Lana approached him, intending to wake him up. However, she lost her balance, and the documents she was holding fell to the floor, creating a loud noise in the silent office.
Lana quickly knelt down to pick them up, one by one. Then, she suddenly saw the name of a female cancer patient, Madelyn Jent.
âCan you ever get anything done?â
Kaiâs displeased voice came from above. In the next second, he grabbed Lana and pulled her up.
Then, he carefully picked up the documents, worrying that they might be damaged.
âI didnât mean it.â
These documents were the information and treatment plans Kai had spent almost a month researching.
He just could not afford to let anything go wrong.
