Chapter 83
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
âIâm glad you understand!â Madelyn happily went up to her and hugged her.
She eagerly took the thermos from Rosario and sat down beside a small table.
âWhyâd you come out here all of a sudden? Do you know how worried Mr. Jent and Mr. Jardin are? Go back tomorrow!â
âThereâs no need for you to try and persuade me; I wonât go back. Besides, it wonât make a difference whether Iâm there or not. They wonât worry about me.â
Rosario looked at the used pot and Worcestershire sauce on the kitchen counter on the balcony.
âThis is what sheâs been eating when Iâm not around. How could she go through such a thing? Sheâs Ms. Jent!â she thought.
Rosario was a little heartbroken. After all, she had watched Madelyn grow up, so she was like her own child.
âMadelyn, is this all youâre having for lunch?â
Madelyn took a big bite of carne frita and nodded, âI donât have ingredients at home, so I just made some noodles. But I think I added too much Worcestershire sauce. Itâs a little too salty. Also⦠I think the Worcestershire sauce has gone bad. It tasted a little funny when I ate it!â
Rosario walked over and poked Madelynâs head with her finger, âWhy didnât you check its expiration date? What if you get a stomachache from it? Donât eat it anymore. Iâll send you home tomorrow, and you should apologize properly to Mr. Jent. Then this whole matter will be considered over.â â
Madelynâs hand, which was holding her cutlery, froze momentarily, âI already said I wouldnât be going back. If you really insist on making me, Iâll leave right now.â
She set down the cutlery and stopped eating. Then, she walked toward the door.
Rosario immediately stopped her, âMadelyn, if youâre not going back, do you plan on staying at a shabby place like this for the rest of your life?â
âWhy not?â
âThis place is shabby and dilapidated. Whatâs so good about it? Madelyn, be good⦠Letâs go home, okay?â
âWhat about it? If youâre going to throw me out, too, then I truly wonât have anywhere to go. I donât want to go home. I lost my home after my motherâs death. Rosarioâ¦can you not throw me out?â Madelyn lowered her head as tears streamed down.
âYou silly girl! Why are you crying? Look around, Madelyn. Thereâs nothing here, and itâs tiny. Itâs nothing compared to your house.â
Madelyn wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
âItâs alright. Iâll go find part-time jobs. I know how to cook, paint, and play the piano. Even if none of those work out, I can work as a waitress to support myself.
âYouâre the daughter of a wealthy family! How could you even think of doing such things?â Rosario continued helplessly, âStop crying now⦠Stay here if you want to! Tomorrow, Iâll buy you some groceries. I wonât be able to stay home and take care of you tomorrow; I need to go to Mr. Jardinâs place and take care of Jadie for a few days. Stay put here, and donât leave the house if you donât need to. It isnât safe here at night.â
Madelyn nodded, âWhatâs happened to Jadie?â
âShe got injured and hasnât recovered. Mr. Jardin canât take care of her,â said Rosario.
âHe can hire a caretaker. Whyâd he have to take you away? What âll happen to me if you leave? Youâre mine.â
Madelyn sniffled arid hugged Rosario tightly.
Rosario stroked Madelynâs long, soft hair, âIâll only be gone for a few days. Once youâre back home, Iâll make all sorts of delicious dishes for you every day.â
Madelyn did not want to go back.
It was late at night. The curtains were thin, so the moonlight outside shone in.
Madelyn and Rosario slept on the same bed.
Madelyn knew she moved a lot when she slept and often kicked away the covers, so the two tucked themselves in separate blankets.
Madelyn had slept the entire day, so she could not fall asleep. She laid under the covers and stared at the ceiling as she counted her fingers absentmindedly.
âWhyâd Zach ask Rosario to take care of Jadie? Wasnât she doing fine today? Heâs surely doing this on purpose. Rosario can take care of Jadie for a few days, but she canât keep on taking care of her.
Rosarioâs mine,â she thought.
That night, Madelyn heard Rosario leaving the house when she was half asleep.
It was starting to get bright out.
However, after what seemed like less than half an hour, Rosario returned home again.
Madelyn smelled the aroma of delicious food.
