Chapter 839
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
At Sky Studios, Clementâs phone rang, and after a brief conversation, he turned to the crowd awaiting Leonardo. âProf. Monetâs been held up by unexpected business and will be delayed,â he announced.
Disappointment rippled through the students who had just arrived, hoping for a glimpse of the famed mentor. âWe were supposed to meet him today,â they murmured.
One studentâs curiosity peaked, âAnd Madelyn? We never see her here, Clement. Where is she?â
Another chimed in, âEspecially after her award and the prize money last week. When will she grace us with her presence?â
Curiosity buzzed through the room. âIsnât she the professorâs one and only protégé? And whoâs this Madelyn Smith thatâs been in the news with the professor?â
Clement, perusing his messages, replied without looking up, âLetâs stay out of the gossip mill. Youâll meet Madelyn when the time comes. For now, just focus on your art.â
He glanced up briefly, adding firmly, âAnd Madelyn Smith has no affiliation with Sky Studios. Now, letâs get back to work, everyone.â
Clement watched the students return to their work before making another call. As he reached the window-lined corridor, the person on the other end answered.
âProf. Monet is back,â he said. âHow long will you hold on to this grudge?â
From the other side came Jane Smithâs sharp response, âYou all favored Madelyn, treated me as less capable, unfit to manage the studio. Now that Iâve left, why not let her return? And stop calling me. Iâll discuss my departure with Prof. Monet myself.â
1 Clement countered firmly, âHer skill outshines ours-thatâs just how it is. Sheâs won that prize, a feat in itself. Doesnât that count for something? Jane, youâre aware Madelyn is the youngest and isnât savvy with the politics here. Deep down, you know whether your actions back then were justified or if they were unfairly directed at her.â
He paused, then offered a concession. âIâm offering you a final chance to return. Come back, and Iâll hand over the studio management to you.â
Yet Janeâs response was resolute, cold. âNo need. Iâll show you that Iâm second to none, certainly not to a rich manâs daughter who only got ahead through privilege. Had it not been for her background, she wouldnât have caught Prof. Monetâs eye.â
With that, she ended the call. Clement frowned, pondering her persistent resentment.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Leonardo Monet found his path blocked by the familiar line of bodyguards outside the elevator.
âWhat is the meaning of this?â Leonardo, a renowned artist, wasnât used to being barred from visiting anyone, let alone his mentee.
Before Kennedy could respond, Margaret emerged from the ward, on her way to get groceries.
Spotting Leonardo, recognition lit up her face.
âOh my, oh myâ¦,â Margaret exclaimed when she saw Leonardo. âProf. Monet, is that you?â she gasped, hurrying over. Youâre Madelynâs mentor, right?â
With a nod from Leonardo, Margaret quickly said, âMadelyn thought you might come. This way, Professor.â
Kennedy, puzzled, turned to Margaret. âAnd the bodyguards?â
âDonât worry about them,â Margaret reassured as she waved off Kennedyâs concern about the bodyguards. âIâll clear it up with Mr. Jardin later.â With that, she ushered Leonardo past the guards, who didnât stop her.
âMadelyn always speaks of you,â Margaret shared as they walked. âIâd have never recognized you without the photo she keeps in her room.â
Later, after his visit, Leonardo emerged from the hospital room visibly moved, tears rimming his eyes.
âFour years Iâve been part of her journey, watching her succeed on her own,â he said, his voice heavy with emotion. âAnd now, to see her struck down by illness so suddenlyâ¦â
Kennedy offered words of solace, âGrandpa, SereneCare Hospital is the best in Ventropolis. The care here rivals that of any country. Sheâs going to pull through.â
The thought of Madelyn battling her illness, while opportunists circled her position, ignited a fire of anger in Leonardo.
A week on, Serenaâs art exhibition went ahead as planned, oblivious to the brewing storm. She had pulled out all the stops, even drawing celebrities and renowned photographers to her event.
