The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 887 Mya kept her head down and didnât dare to speak again. Fred put the money on her lap and said, âThis is what I owe you. I donât like owing people.â
âIâll take it, just please donât hurt me,â Mya replied, feeling flustered, and she quickly stuffed the money into her bag.
Suddenly, a memory flashed in her mind, and a voice echoed, âSince you like eating so much, finish this spoiled meal. If not, Iâll keep you locked up here like a dog. If you disobey, Iâll have someone beat you to death.â
A buried memory rushed back, giving Mya a sharp pain in her head. For the rest of the car ride, Mya stayed quiet and timid.
Fred noticed Myaâs change in behavior and gradually lost interest as the car became quiet. He ordered, âStop the car â
When the car halted, Fred, growing impatient, lit a cigar. âGet out and grab a cab home.â
With a brief command, the car doors unlocked, and Mya, shaking a bit, quickly got out. Before she left, Fredâs keen eyes spotted the money, untouched on the car seat.
Mya dashed into The Deli, her fleeing figure looking desperate, like she was being chased by a beast.
As she hurried, her hair bun came undone, and a pearl hairpin fell, later picked up by a passerby and tossed into a nearby trash can.
All Mya knew was that she had escaped from the jaws of danger. As she walked into The Deli, the amazing smell of food immediately caught her attention, making her forget all about what had happened earlier.
âThereâs still plenty of time to get home before it gets dark,â Mya reassured herself.
After ordering more than thirty dollarsâ worth of food and keeping just over ten dollars for the cab fare home, Mya found a cozy corner, sipping on her lemon tea. What Mya didnât realize was that the black car parked on the street near The Deli hadnât left. Fred was still in the car, his leg propped up, tapping his finger thoughtfully, his gaze dark and deep, watching the carefree Mya nearby.
Dining alone, Mya quickly devoured her meal once it arrived, earning disapproving looks from fancy ladies at a nearby table. They snickered, saying, âLook at her, sheâs eating like thereâs no tomorrow.â
âWho knows where this bumpkin came from, never seen the world.â
Hearing their remarks, Mya slowed down and lowered her head. âWow, look at this pig. She even understands human language. Just like my pet dog, plump and cute.â
One of the ladies, with bangs framing her doll-like face, chuckled, âBut not as obedient as my Belle. At least a dog knows to keep up appearances when outside.â
With that, the three other women at the same table who had held back their laughter laughed out loud.
Mya kept her head so low while eating that it almost touched her food, choosing not to respond to the teasing.
âHey, considering your size, you sure three dishes are enough for you?â one of them joked. Another person joined in, âWant us to share our leftovers with you?â
But little did they know, Fred saw everything. He was good at understanding what people said just by watching their lips. So, every word they said was as clear to him as if they shouted it. He thought Mya would react, but surprisingly, she stayed quiet and didnât stand up for herself.
After that, one of them called the server. The server came up and asked, â Hi, how can I help you today?â
The lady requested, âCan you ask that girl to leave? Sheâs spoiling our appetite.â
