Chapter 937
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Margaret clumsily hit the record button and sent the video of Madelyn eating the chicken potato soup to Zach.
âMy goodness, Ms. Jent. You look so beautiful on camera,â Margaret exclaimed, obviously pleased with her filming skills.
âThatâs enough. Iâve finished the soup. If you need money because things are tight at home, Iâm willing to cooperate with you on one condition: you must never betray me,â Madelyn sternly instructed Margaret.
Margaret happily picked up the bowl, made a sweeping gesture with her hand, and said, âDonât worry, Ms. Jent. I will take care of it. Iâm definitely on your side.
âIâm just focused on Mr. Jardinâs money,â Margaret admitted candidly.
Madelyn knew Zach could easily bribe Margaret. She concluded that if Margaret were to side with Zach, she would not have anyone she could trust in the long run.
âOkay. You can go now,â Madelyn said, eager for some peace and quiet.
âYes, Ms. Jent,â Margaret nodded before leaving the room.
Meanwhile, Zach received a notification on his phone during a meeting at Jardin Corporation. He saw it was a video from Margaret.
The Business Development Department manager was giving a presentation in front of the large screen and glanced at Zach. Many in the room relaxed after they saw Zachâs unusually pleasant expression.
Even more surprising, they thought they might be seeing things when they caught Zach smiling at his phone in broad daylight.
Zach tapped his phone to open the interface for adding new contacts and saw that the friend request he sent was still pending approval.
Madelyn left that pink phone in the bedside tableâs drawer where she could not hear it vibrate. It then lit up again with a notification for a friend request.
After the meeting, Zach picked up his phone and stared intently at the screen before opening the newly developed chat application. The companyâs senior executives and Kevin, who had not yet dispersed, all turned to look at the trembling Software Development Department at the side.
âWhy isnât there a response?â Zach murmured. His words caused everyoneâs heart to skip a beat.
The lead technician stepped forward and said, âMr. Jardin, the software is still in its testing phase. We Zach, known for his decisiveness in business, seemed a little lost navigating the intricacies of the software. The lead technician noticed the name âWifeâ saved as the contact name.
âThe contact will need to approve your friend request before you can chat with her,â the lead technician informed Zach, whose frown deepened at the explanation.
The lead technician immediately added, âWe can also add someoneâs contact information through another methodâ¦â
Before the lead technician could finish speaking, the elevator arrived. As the doors opened, Zach twirled his phone before slipping it into his pocket. He commanded, âCome to my office in ten minutes.â
âYes, Mr. Jardin.â the lead technician responded.
Not one of the dozen or so senior executives dared to ride the same elevator as Zach. Only after he had gone up did they take the elevator back to their respective departments.
Zachâs previous attempt to connect with Madelyn involved installing a global positioning system on her phone. After the Information Technology Departmentâs intervention, Zach bypassed the need for her approval and added her contact himself.
âMr. Jardin, weâve added the contact. You can now message your wife. She will surely respond once she sees the messages now,â the lead technician assured Zach, unaware of the complexity of Zachâs and Madelynâs relationship.
Zachâs gaze lingered on the empty chat window. He asked, âWhat do you think sheâs doing right now?â
âMs. Jent should be in her studio at this hour. If you miss her, you could call her Mr. Jardin.â Kevin suggested, noticing the somber tone in Zachâs voice.
Zach hesitated at the thought of calling Madelyn, knowing the likely cold response from her. He kept his phone and instead inquired about the latest developments regarding the Harper family.
Kevin updated Zach on the situation, âConsidering the time since Ms. Harper disappeared, itâs been almost half a month. If all goes as expected, the Harper family will soon approach Ms. Jent.â
Zach knew that as the new year approached, it would signify a fresh start for him. It would be the time he intended for Madelyn to willingly become his wife.
Back at the Southern Haven Villas, Madelyn had just completed a painting commission to be delivered to her mentorâs studio. As she prepared to rest, a strange black car pulled up. It was driven by the Harper familyâs chauffeur, whom she recognized from Myaâs visits.
As the car stopped, a woman stepped out and was halted by the security guard. The woman shouted, Ms. Jent, Iâm Myaâs mother. Thereâs something Iâd like to speak with you about!â
Madelyn gestured to the bodyguards to let Grace in. Madelyn saw the fatigue in Graceâs face and recognized the family resemblance with Mya. It was their first meeting, and Madelyn already instinctively respected her.
âMrs. Harperâ¦â Madelyn began when Grace suddenly clutched at her hands and fell to her knees.
âPlease⦠save Mya!â Grace begged, her voice filled with desperation.
