Chapter 978
The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning
Fred gave Blake a sharp, piercing gaze. He asked curtly, âHow long until she gets better?â
Blake bit her lip, then replied, âThe doctor said itâs a deep-rooted emotional issue from her childhood, worsened by the abuse she suffered. She has been traumatized. Recovery, if at all possible, will be slow. Sheâs been medicated for over a decade with little improvement. In addition to her being constantly bullied, how could she possibly get better anytime soon?â âThereâs no disease that canât be cured,â Fred declared sternly. âYou have one day to pack up. Tomorrow, weâre heading back to Ventropolis. If you donât comply, youâll face the consequences.â
Fredâs glance briefly met Myaâs before shifting away coldly.
Blake exhaled deeply, feeling relieved at Fredâs departure.
In the car, Fred unbuttoned his sleeve to reveal a stark bite mark. Riley caught a glimpse of the injury in the rearview mirror, noting blood seeping through. Riley murmured, âIâve never seen Mr. Turner being so tolerant toward any woman.â
If Mya had been a woman from an ordinary household, she definitely would not remain unharmed until now.
Fred covered the wound with his sleeve. He said coldly, âEyes on the road.â
Unexpectedly, Blake returning to her hometown in Sutherlyn did not bring the peace she had hoped for.
She had thought she could escape the troubles of the capital. Yet, to her surprise, she found herself having to return.
Blake quickly fetched a first aid kit for Grace. Meanwhile, Mya, holding her motherâs hand, tried to comfort her with childlike innocence, âMom, donât cry. Iâll make it better.â
Grace looked at Mya with tearful eyes, filled with sorrow and regret. Grace said, âMya, Iâm fine. You donât need to worry.â
In Graceâs eyes, Mya was always a quiet and well-behaved girl, never troubling anyone from childhood.
Mya was always the one being bullied, never the other way around. Yet, Mya had managed to draw the wrath of a formidable foe to her familyâs doorstep.
Grace thought that leaving the capital would allow her family a peaceful life. Yet, Fred managed to find them in Sutherlyn.
âMya, could you fetch me a glass of water?â Grace requested.
âSure, Mom,â Mya replied.
Myaâs eyes were brimming with tears. She ran to the kitchen to fetch water for Grace, leaving Blake and Grace alone.
âBlake, take Mya and leave Sutherlyn,â Grace implored. âGo as far as you can, where he canât find you.â
Blake protested, âAuntie, I canât leave you and uncle behind!â
Grace said with her voice heavy with grief, âListen to me, Blake. If your uncle were here, heâd say the same. Our biggest responsibility has always been Mya. If not for my negligence, she wouldnât be in this state.â
The fact that Mya had become mentally incapacitated was a lifelong sorrow for Grace, who felt she had not been a good parent.
Blake protested, âBut⦠if we leave, heâll definitely come and make trouble for you. What if⦠he does something horrible to you? Mya will be heartbroken.â
Grace was resolute. She said, âThere are no buts. You have to do this. He might target the company, but your uncle and I donât care. If the company is gone, so be it, but nothing can happen to Mya. Blake, I hope you can help Mya this time.â
Blake wanted to say more, but ultimately she acquiesced.
âOkay, Iâll do it,â Blake said. âBut once I ensure Mya is safe, Iâll come back for you both.â
Grace shook her head and tears streaming down her face. âNo, donât come back until he gives up on Mya. Here, take this,â she said, handing Blake a card filled with their savings. âNever come back, no matter what happens to us. Keep Mya safe and away from him.â
