Chapter 40

The fireworks (40)

Blue Moon (gxg)

The music played high above us as we were dancing like nobody was watching.

Bella traced her fingers over my cheek:

"Come closer, Ellie..." She whispered.

I did it, and she gave me a totally unexpected passionate kiss in front of everyone.

My body reached high temperatures I didn't think I could handle before today.

Her eyes sparkling:

"Hey, are you okay?" She asked me like nothing happened.

"Hmm... sorry, I stopped breathing..." I swallowed hardly.

She smiled in a teasing way: "That was the goal..."

"Bella, it's getting too hot in here..." I said waving my hand in a gesture of nonchalance, trying to keep things casual, even though my heart was racing.

"You're right..." She giggled.

"And I'm getting thirsty... shall we go to the bar? Maybe we can catch a drink."

I nodded to her.

Everyone already had a beer so we didn't have to wait our turn at the bar.

I can tell Bella and I were the only people not drunk or high in that party.

I leaned against the bar counter, catching my own breath, Bella was right next to me.

"You get to choose any drinks, as long as it is an iced one, please."

"As you wish..." She replied.

My face must have been red because Bella kept looking at me laughing good-naturedly.

"Hi!" Bella greeted the bartender.

The girl slowly looked up.

"Hi..." She smirked, raising an eyebrow in a surprised expression.

"What can I get you?"

"Two iced cokes, please."

Suddenly the girl let out a teasing laugh, full of challenge.

She leaned out slightly and came dangerously close to Bella.

"I'm sorry, sugar, we don't have drinks for minors..." She smiled mischievous.

What a stupid joke...

I glanced at Bella who had remained impassive and calm.

"Come again?" She asked, not at all amused.

The girl laughed again, her eyes sparking with mischief.

"Maybe you should get something stronger than just a coke..."

HMM.... that's not fun.

Her comment lingered in the air, daring Bella to react at it.

I can see the sparkle irritation flash across Bella's face now.

She was, if possible, even prettier with that electricity crackling her around.

"Well, it's up to us to decide, and we still want those two cokes... so, can you do that or not?" She asked with a tight smile.

I can sense from her tone that she clearly wasn't in the mood for more jokes.

And neither was I, for the matter.

The girl shrugged her shoulders: "Well... I can do this exception for you..." She said satisfied, clearly addressing only Bella.

Can she just... stop, now?

Bella's eyes shifted toward me, she smiled slightly, as to reassuring me or to offer some comfort.

Her gaze lingered a little longer, sending a wave of warmth through me, I smiled back, feeling a little embarrassed.

"Here's your iced cokes..."

The girl spoke.

She still didn't let go of the bottle in front of Bella, squaring her dress from top to bottom.

Hmm.... I'm highly suspicious NOW that she is clearly interested in Bella...

A strange anger is rising inside me and I can't explain it.

"You can let the bottle go now..." Bella smiled nervously.

Will this agony ever end?

I'm getting thirsty....plus.... I just don't like this girl mood at all.

"What's your name, again?" The girl asked her.

AGAIN? Oh, so she has finally the courage to ask now.

"You know mine..." She whispered satisfied, tapping with her fingers on the name tage on her shirt.

I barely suppress an eye roll, thinking that maybe that stupid conversation would go on much longer.

Bella raised an eyebrow.

"I can't share my name. I am minor... remember? You could get into trouble." She smirked satisfied.

Then she slipped her arm around my waist, getting closer to my hip.

I just couldn't help but smile with pleasure.

I swear the bartender gasped... she was speechless.

I took the opportunity to immediately grab both bottles from her fingers, daring also to give her a challenging smirk... which she eventually returned...

Bella and I walked away without saying anything else.

We sat in one of the small sofas near the sea and in that moment I couldn't help but burst out laughing.

"That wasn't funny, Ellie, I couldn't take it anymore..." Bella calmly muttered, she was laughing as well.

I took a slow sip of coke: "That wasn't funny from my side, either." I whispered as I involuntarily tore the paper off the bottle.

Bella rested her hand on my leg, leaving me a caress:

"I'm sorry, you're right..."

"It's okay. She was pushing it though..." I mumbled, blushing.

Bella bit her lips in a sparkle of excitement: "She definitely was... and I'm getting interest in this topic..."

"I will not give you this satisfaction, Bella..." I laughed, shaking my head.

"So are you leaving me hanging like this?" She teased.

Her lips dangerously close to my neck.

"Of course..." I muttered.

I looked right into her eyes:

"But, I have a serious question, though..." I said.

"Do tell..."

"You always have the right answer with people, how do you do that?"

I had noticed it since our first meeting and I still wondered how she does it.

Bella shrugged her shoulders: "I don't know, Ellie. I guess if people are being totally jerk I pay them with the same coin."

I lowered my gaze feeling a little strange about it: "I am nothing like you. Sometimes I'm not even unable to speak for myself..."

Bella turned toward my direction, her arm around my waist: "Doesn't mean that my method is right, Ellie... I can be a pain in the ass..."

"Hm, do tell..."

Bella sighed slowly, I can tell she was

having difficulty finding her words.

"At some point I can lose control of myself..." It was as if she was admitting it.

I widened my gaze:

"You lose control? I can't see that honestly..."

I laughed slightly but Bella remained strangely serious.

She took a ragged breath:

"There are moments when I can feel the tension building inside me. It's like a pressure I can't release, and before I know it, I say things I don't mean... words that cut deeper than I intended."

I can feel she is really struggling between holding on and letting go her words.

And that's strange, because she is not like that...

I caressed her arm.

"Everyone has their limits, Bella..." I reassured her.

She shook her head impulsively:

"Well, I don't want to let it get to that limit, never, but it happens..." Her voice was more rigid now.

I squeezed her hand: "I would like to do something for you, Bella... maybe you should talk about it... it would be easier.

I will listen."

She sighed hesitantly:

"I don't want to do it... right now I just want to be with you, Ellie... nothing else matters."

Her eyes flickered with torment but they also convey a deep emotional vulnerability she wanted to hide toward this subject.

"Fine..." I sighed, understanding her difficulties to let herself go completely.

Bella gave me kiss on the neck, sending me chills in my back: "Ellie, have you eaten? Would you like to eat?" She pointed to the buffet, smiling again.

I smiled: "Sure, I'm actually hungry."

We returned from the buffet with two full plates of food but we shared everything.

Bella paid carefully attention if I ate my food and I did... because I had no fear to eat if she was there with me.

Around us the music was growing softer.

I wrapped both hands around her arm, resting my head on her shoulder.

"Are you tired, sweetie?" She asked me.

"No. Not at all. I feel like a could go on all night long."

"With me?" She asked innocently.

I smiled: "Yes, with you."

The DJ put on a slow song and a few couples approached the center of the dance floor, moving slowly and awkwardly.

That made me smile.

"Would you give me this dance?" I can sense the nervous yet soft tone in her voice.

"Yes."

We went to the center of the dance floor, Bella tightened her arms on my hips, I tightened on her shoulders.

Our bodies matched perfectly.

From the speakers the words of that soft ballad.

It was Look After You by The Fray.

"Tell me about the first time you saw me, Ellie."

Bella asked in my ear as she clutched to my body.

"The first time I saw you... the first time you caught my eye... that night at the disco..." I burst into an emotional smile.

My eyes almost got teary:

"From the very beggining, Bella, although we were strangers... you were the only one that was able to look me from the inside."

My smiled was getting more and more emotional: "I remember there was this strange, strong connection I couldn't explain..."

"That night a quiet curiosity was planted in my chest..." Bella continued my story. Her smile widened with affection.

"I just knew it was only a matter of time before it turned into this fiery feeling. I always knew it, inside me." She affirmed, confident about her words.

A warm shiver ran through me, something very deep and undeniable.

"You and I, Ellie... we are the same." She whispered, clinging sweetly to my body.

My heart raced.

The words of that song in the background:

>

What's that song a sign again?

Someone shouted "fireworks" in a loud voice, we looked to our left and the first blue lights colored the sky.

>

"It's midnight..." Bella affirmed staring wistful at the sky.

My heart was about to burst.

"You are not watching the fireworks, sweetie?" She asked me.

I kept staring at her profile and smiling: "Too busy watching you."

We kissed in that instant, when the sky burst with colors and that song burst in our ears.

"Would you like to ... to see the fireworks in my room?" I whispered tremblingly to her, my lips inches from hers.

"Yes."
