She crouched down to embrace him, kissing his cheek. “You’ve lost weight.”

Daniel’s cheeks blushed as he hugged Brittany back. “Mom, when can you come home? I miss you.”

“Are you not feeling well? Is that why he won’t let me hug you?”

“No, it’s not that.”

Brittany took his hand, placing it on her belly. “Mom has a little baby in here, so I have to be careful.”

Daniel’s eyes widened in shock. “A baby?”

“Yes.”

Daniel’s surprise turned into excitement. “Is it going to be a sister?”

“Not sure yet.”

Brittany shook her head. “We won’t know the sex until the baby is born.”
