Chapter 1249
The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart (Brittany and Isaac)
âI heard you started working,â Ronald said, his casual grey cotton shirt hanging loosely on his tall, lean frame, his eyes clear and soothing.
âHowâs it going?â
âAlright,â Kari replied, her voice tinged with embarrassment as she had just been caught crying, âBro, I think Iâll take a shower.â
Ronald knew what was on her mind.
âGo ahead. I made chicken soup, come out and have some when youâre done,â he said, his voice gentle.
After her shower, Kari returned to the kitchen, feeling somewhat refreshed yet still emotionally drained.
It had been ten years since they last saw each other, and her memories of the past had started to fade.
Seeing Ronald bustling about in the kitchen brought a wave of nostalgia and disorientation over her.
Noticing her distant gaze, Ronald carried the freshly made soup to the dining table.
Ronald was a great cook, a fact Kari was well aware of.
He ladled out some soup into a small bowl. It was made from the freshest chicken, slowly simmered with herbs until the broth turned rich and the meat was tender and juicy.
He even prepared a special dipping sauce with a tangy kick from the lemon juice, adding a refreshing contrast to the rich soup.
âEat up,â he encouraged.
Kari reluctantly sat down, not feeling hungry but unable to refuse Ronaldâs caring gaze.
Ronald skilfully removed the chicken skin and cut the meat into bite-sized pieces, placing them in front of Kari, âDonât just drink the soup, have some meat.â
âI really canât, bro,â Kari sighed, her mind preoccupied with thoughts of her wedding, leaving her with no appetite.
Ronald, observing her closely, silently finished the chicken meat himself.
âIâm sorry, broââ she started.
He had made an effort, and she couldnât even take a bite.
After finishing the meal, Ronald advised, âYou shouldnât go to the studio right now, not with how youâre feeling.â
âI have to,â Kari frowned, âBrittany is swamped, and without me, Iâm worried things will fall apart.â
âKari,â Ronald insisted gently, âWhat you need is rest. You can work better once youâre feeling up to it.â
âBut Iâm fine,â she countered, putting on a brave front. She couldnât let anyone see her vulnerability.
Her mother was adamant.
She wouldnât marry the enemy of her father!
The Jarvis family was eagerly awaiting the drama to unfold, and she didnât want to give Mila the satisfaction of seeing her defeated.
âBro, I know what Iâm doing,â she said, now a grown woman.
Ronald, still concerned but understanding her determination, conceded, âIâve talked to mom, and thereâs extra room here. Iâll move in.â
He paused, âWilla is staying at my place.â
The argument between mother and daughter had left their relationship strained.
Willa couldnât accept that her preferred son-in-law was from the Jarvis family, nearly fainting from shock.
Ronald had arranged for someone to look after her and even scheduled a full health check-up to prevent any old ailments from resurfacing.
With him moving out of Willaâs, Kari couldnât refuse his offer any longer.
âOkay.â
The house was well-stocked, so Ronald moved in that night.
Kari was too drained to play host, but Ronald, understanding her well, didnât mind.
He took a break from work, trying various recipes to tempt Kari to eat, but to little avail.
Her appetite was gone, and within a week, she had visibly lost weight.
When Willa returned home and saw her daughterâs frail condition, her heart sank.
