Chapter 678
The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart (Brittany and Isaac)
Chapter 678 Brittany shrugged her off, losing her appetite for the coffee.
âLetâs go, Kari.â
Carla grabbed her purse and followed them closely behind, âWait up, sis-in-law.â.
Brittany cringed at the title, pausing her steps, and said, âDonât call me that.â
She never considered herself a part of the Salter clan, let alone Carlaâs sister-in-law.
Carla blushed, âIâm sorry. They were just joking.â
âWhat kind of man is William? You know better than I do. Would you marry him if he really did all those things theyâre saying?â
Brittany couldnât understand. Cafla was so infatuated with William, and it was no secret. But when people spoke ill of him, Carla just brushed it off as a joke?
Carlaâs smile faded, then she said, âYou and William broke up a long time ago.â
âI know. But aside from that, weâre old friends. I trust his character.â
Brittany didnât see anything wrong with her actions. She would have done the same for any of her friends, not just William. But Carla saw it differently.
Carla had always wondered why William had been in love with Brittany for so many years. Was it her looks? Her figure? Her wealth? She didnât lose out to Brittany in any of those aspects. In fact, she knew William even before Brittany did, yet William never gave her a second look.
At that moment, she finally understood what was so special about her. Brittany was simply out of her league.
She licked her lips, pleading, âCan you please stop contacting William?â
Brittany frowned, âWhat?â
âI know itâs unreasonable, but Iâve always been bothered by your previous relationship with William. For the sake of our marriage, can you step out of our lives?â
Brittany was dumbstruck.
In truth, she hadnât had any contact with William since he got married.
âMs. Salter, youâre imagining things. William is not just my ex, but also a close friend. I owe him a lot. I never intended to interfere with your lives, nor did I plan to rekindle anything. Iâll try to limit private contact, but itâs impossible to cut him off completely. We share mutual friends on Facebook, and public encounters are unavoidable. But I promise you, I wonât reach out to him privately.â
Having said her piece, Brittany turned and left.
Carla watched her retreating figure, a sense of unease creeping up on her.
As Brittany and Kari left, Kari whispered to her, âDoes Ms. Salter really like Mr. Dillion? She didnât even stand up for him when people were badmouthing him. She was doing nothing to keep his reputation from falling apart.â
âI donât know,â Brittany wasnât one to comment on other peopleâs affairs, âLetâs go. Iâll take you home.â
After dropping Kari off, Brittany picked up Daniel and went back to their house at Radiant Residences.
She cooked dinner herself and stayed with Daniel until she fell asleep.
Isaac came home a little drunk.
Brittany pretended not to notice. Their relationship had hit rock bottom lately, and Isaacâs attempts to make amends had been met with indifference.
Brittany bypassed him, heading to the kitchen. When she returned, she held a warm glass of milk. Isaac leaned against the wall, his eyes a mix of confusion and frustration as he curiously asked, âDid you have a fight with Carla?â
Had Carla tattled?
The thought flashed through Brittanyâs mind as she sipped her warm milk, and without providing an answer, she questioned him, âDid she tell you?â
âEveryone knows what William did. You defended him, and his wife is naturally upset.â
Not wanting to argue with him on that topic, Brittany turned to leave.
Isaac watched her retreating figure, inexplicably feeling a headache coming on. Almost Instinctively, he reached out to wrap his arms around her waist. âDonât move.â
