“I should be going. You should rest.” Brittany turned to leave, but then stopped and looked back at the old woman. “I’ve already submitted the divorce papers. I don’t want anything. I just want Daniel. If the Salter family refuses to let go, I have ways to get custody. You should think about how to persuade him to sign the papers.”

As she left the room, Carla glared at Brittany, wishing she could tear her apart.

Brittany raised her hand, “Daniel, let’s go.”

Daniel took Brittany’s hand, and they stepped into the elevator.

As the elevator doors closed, Daniel looked up at Brittany, “Mom, are you and dad getting a divorce?”
