Chapter 138
The Love From Vengeance
138 THE SHOCKING FEATS LUKEâS POW Opening my eyes, I saw Ariel right by my side. She looked pretty tired, but a smile was right there on her visage â a fragile one, actually. And I could still feel the pain within me. With the pain caused by that good for nothing witch, I could even wonder what had happened to her. But I shouldnât care less. I could only feel sorry for the little girl I saw at the warehouse. Catherine, yes, that was her name. She was being raised by a monster, and I hoped she wasnât living a life of lies the same way I did.
âYouâre finally awake,â Ariel said, holding my hand. She cleaned her eyes, trying to wash away the drowsiness. âIâm really glad about that.â
âHow long have I been here?â I asked, scanning the room.
âA few hours, I think. You donât have to worry. You havenât been in the hospital. You donât have a coma or something.â She laughed, a little one, though, because her expression right now was the synonym of sad, whatever word you want to use. And it was really surprising to me. It was really surprising that she was this worried about me. Wow, tonight was really a night that Iâll never forget.
I let out a weary sigh, closing my eyes. I could still feel Arielâs fingers intertwining with mine. The feeling was actually good. But the moment was quite confusing. It was as if our relationship had been filled with so much love before all of that terror happened.
âYou should get some rest, donât you think?â I suggested.
âIâve been resting here the whole time,â she responded.
âNo, you havenât. Youâve been worried about me; am I not correct?â
âYou are right about that. But anyway, Iâm glad youâre okay.â
âYou think something worse than this is going to happen?â
âWell, I was afraid you were going to die.â
âYou shouldnât be, just in case next time.â
âAre you wishing for someone to shoot you again?â
âNot really. But I have to be real with myself. My life is really complicated.â
âNo doubt about that.â Ariel yawned, lying on the bed, right next to me. Her actions really shocked me.
This was not something I expected.
This was a moment that I could say I wanted to take place, and at the same time, I didnât want it to happen. Itâs quite funny, right? But it is extremely shocking, flabbergasting, and unimaginable.
Indeed, quite conceivable, as we did engage in sexual activity on this particular occasion subsequent to our subsequent matrimonial union. I was just wondering how that scene took place. Apparently, I wasnât ready to give in to this woman. I was about to spill the lovely words to her until those little children came along. And I didnât think that would be happening any more.
I exhaled deeply. âSo youâre really going to spend the night here.â
âYes, yes, I will,â she answered softly, closing her eyes. And then she placed her hand on my chest.
Another shocking feat. But I decided to do nothing. I didnât utter a single word, and that was how we both went to sleep.
ARIELâS POV I woke up, and the hospital room was bright, with light coming out through the windows. Yes, it was finally morning. I turned my eyes to Luke, who was still sleeping. And staring at his innocent face, I couldnât help but smile. He was really exhausted after what happened last night. Shit, his life was really complicated.
I sat on the bed, taking my hands off his chest, and yawned. My hair was sort of a mess, and I was tired myself. I was not feeling too pretty, although I was putting on a ravishing dress. Work today would be cancelled, probably. I needed to go home and get some rest; the same thing was true for Luke.
The door opened, and the nurse from last night entered the room. With her eyes fixed on me and Luke, she moved closer. âGood morning. Arie, right?â
I nodded, and she stirred nigher to Luke. âDid heâ¦.â
I nodded for the second time, and she suspired as she said, âThank God.â
âIâm glad heâs stable now. Well, we are all glad that heâs stable. But heâs going to need some time to recover,â the nurse said. âHeâs lucky the bullet didnât hit any vital organs, but the wound is quite deep.
Heâs going to need proper care and treatment to ensure it heals properly.â
âOkay, what kind of treatment does he need?â I asked, raising an eyebrow.
âWell, for starters, he needs to stay in the hospital for a few days to monitor his condition and make sure there are no complications,â she explained. âWeâll also have to clean and dress the wound regularly to prevent infection. And of course, heâll need plenty of rest and a healthy diet to help his body heal.â
I nodded, taking mental notes of everything the nurse was saying. âIs there anything else I should know?â
âJust make sure he doesnât strain himself too much. Heâll need to take it easy for the next few weeks until the wound fully heals. And if he experiences any pain or discomfort, donât hesitate to call for a nurse. We want to make sure heâs as comfortable as possible during his recovery.â
I nodded after the nurse vocalized those words. And then Lake woke up from his sleep. Opening his eyes slightly, he took a look at me, then he glanced at the nurse, âAnd heâs awake,â the nurse said, her hands fixed on her waist as she stared back at Luke.
âHey, how are you feeling?â I asked Luke, sitting next to him.
âIâm okay, just a bit sore,â he replied. âWhat did the nurse say?â
âShe said youâd need to stay in the hospital for a few days.â
âWhat the hell?!â
âWhat? Anything wrong with that?â The nurse made a confused face.
âWell, Iâm a businessman. I canât stay in this hospital for too long. I have important meetings today. And I think Iâm already late for one.â
âOkay, Luke. You canât argue with the nurse. Nothing is more important than your health right now.â
âSay what now?â He arched an eyebrow.
âIf you want to fully recover, you just have to do what the nurse says, okay?â
âIâm fully recovered, alright.â He stood up immediately. âSee, thereâs nothing wrong with⦠Ouuuhh!â He held on to the wounded part of his body.
âSo, Mr. Businessman, you were saying?â The nurse crossed her arms while I helped Luke sit on the bed.
He rolled his eyes. âFine. But Iâm not staying here for too long. Only today.â
âNo oneâs forcing you, sir. Youâre the owner of your body after all.â
âNow thatâs more like it.â Luke snapped his fingers.
The nurse looked at me. âThis husband of yours is really stubborn. Just take care of him, okay?â
âI will.â I nodded, smiling at her, and she left the room.
âCan you believe her? She just said, Iâm stubborn.â
FLATS âAnd sheâs right, Luke. You can be really hard to deal with sometimes. Every time, actually,â I told him, standing up and walking to the door.
âWhere are you going?â
âTo get us some food,â I answered, leaving the room.
âDonât get me hospital food, okay?â
I laughed immediately.
âOkay?â He vocalized loudly.
âOkay,â I told him before walking away.
