Chapter 170
The Love From Vengeance
170 SETTLED LUKEâS POV I couldnât believe my eyes. This little kid was threatening me with a gun. What was he even thinking?
That I would get down on my knees and start begging him? Hell no âAre you bein you being serious right now?â I asked Todd, who still had his gun pointed at me.
âTodd, drop the gun,â Tiffany told him.
âSis, this man donât deserve you. Letâs just blow his brain off.â
âYou do know who youâre messing with, right?â I arched one of my eyebrows.
âWho the fuck are you?â Todd barked, not taking his gun down.
âI donât have to speak much. Just know that you donât want to be messing with one of the notable billionaires in New Haven.â
âJust drop the gun for crying out loud!â Tiffany shrieked and snatched the gun from his hand. Well, thatâs someone with senses.
Tiffany fixed her eyes on me. âIâm sorry, I had no idea my brother was going toâ¦.
âItâs okay,â I told her. âBut what do you expect when you got a gangster by your side?â
âBullshit!â Todd snarled, he glanced a his sister. âYouâre apologizing to this man?â
âJust be quiet, will you?â Tiffany gave him a cold stare. He angrily turned his face away. Tiffany looked at me. âIâm not forcing anything here, Luke. You just have to tell me, you need to be honest with me.â
âYes, and I am being honest here. Iâm sorry for breaking your heart.â
âItâs okay,â she said underneath her breath.
âNo itâs not,â I said immediately. âI was a fool, I did shit to you, caused pain, but Iâm really sorry. Iâve been a terrible guy, no doubt about that. Ariel can testify, but lately, Iâve been changing. And now we canât change the past. The deed has already been done, the pain has already filled our hearts, and weâve been broken. We just have to look forward to the future, we got to focus on the present, and believe me when I say this, I got you. I got this baby, and Iâll take full responsibility. But I canât marry you.â
âBecause you have a wife,â Tiffany told me, and as we looked into each otherâs eyes, she sniffled. âI totally understand that, Luke. And Iâm glad that you still care, I was afraid that you were going to abandon me, and this child Iâm carrying. I know, iny parents are wealthy, but I still need support. A child needs to know the father, right?â She laughed, even in the pain. âIâm not going to keep on chasing you.
You have a wife, you have a life, and I have my child. Just promise to always come around, love and treat this child very well.â She wiped the little tear from her eye.
170 SETTLED I smiled at her. âI promise. Now donât cry, okay?â
âIâm not crying.â She laughed faintly, a fake one though. âYou can take care of yourself. Iâll be leaving now. Weâre still friends, right?â
âYeah, âI replied underneath my breath, and shook hands with her. âWeâre still friends.â We hugged. No doubt Tiffany was hurt, broken. And it was all my fault. But I couldnât marry her, wouldnât be possible. A promise had already been made to my late grandfather.
âTake care of yourself, okay?â Tiffany told me after we had both let go of each other. She tapped my shoulder.
âYou take care too,â I told her. My eyes went to Todd, he was glaring at me, boiling in anger just by watching what was happening at the moment.
âBe careful with that gun,â I joked, and Tiffany laughed lightly. She left with Todd. I felt kind of bad for her. Being friends wouldnât actually be a bad idea. But I knew I wasnât going to take things further.
I went back inside the house, walking straight to my room. I saw Ariel getting dressed, she looked really pretty in the dress she was wearing. At the moment, she was putting on some earrings.
âYouâre going to work, now?â I asked, moving closer to her.
âNo, Iâm going to see my mom,â she replied, not turning around. I kind of had the feeling that something wasnât right around here.
âWhat about Andre and the others, wonât you be joining them at work?â I quizzed, but she refused to give me a response. She was looking at herself in the room, now applying some lipstick. âThe man that came to visit you, what did he do?â
âNothing. Absolutely nothing,â she replied.
âAre you sure about that?â
âWhy are you asking me this?â Ariel turned to look at me.
âBecause I feel like youâre angry.â
She just shook her head, ignoring me, walking towards the door.
âHey, youâre just going to walk out like that?â
âOh, sorry, goodbye,â she told me and left. Like, what the hell was wrong with her?
ARIELâS POV After some minutes on the road, I pulled up to my motherâs new house. No doubt, It had been a while since I had seen her. I didnât know why we had that relationship of you know, just abandoning ourselves. Crap you know!
I took a deep breath and got out of my car, making my way to the front door. âMom?â I called out, 170 SETTLED hoping she could hear me from the garden.
âIn the backyard, dear!â her voice echoed back.
I walked through the house, taking in some pictures and decorations that I had grown up with. As I made my way to the backyard, I could hear the sound of running water. My mother really loved gardening, and I could picture her now, tending to her plants.
And there she was, just as I had imagined. My mother, with her delightful smile, was watering her flowers. She turn around as she heard my footsteps and her face lit up with surprise.
âAriel!â she exclaimed, dropping the watering can and running to embrace me.
We stood there, in each otherâs arms, for what felt like an eternity. Glad to be with her once more. âI donât know, but I think Iâve missed you, mom.
âIâve missed you too, my darling,â she replie.
We pulled apart and my mother looked at me, still smiling. âSo, how have you been doing all this time?â
âIâve been great. How about you?â
âIâve been great as well, and kind of busy.â
âYeah, I can see that,â I said, looking around. âWell, Iâve got a lot of things to tell you. And I really need your advice.
âOh I see. Iâm always ready to listen to anything my daughter has to say. Letâs go in the house to continue this discussion.
âSure,â I told her softly. She placed her hand on my shoulder as we both made our way to the house.
We both settled down on the couch. âSo Ariel, tell me whatâs bothering you.â
âWellâ¦.â I trailed off, and let out a deep sigh. âIâm just confused right now, and at the same time, Iâm disappointed in myself.â
âWhy? Whatâs the problem?â
I became silent for a minute before I finally spoke, âAfter all these years, I came back into Lukeâs life.
And these feelings toward him, itâs justâ¦â¦ something I never expected.â
