Chapter 18
The Love From Vengeance
âGoodbye, my babies. Take care, and remember, Mommy always loves you!â I exclaimed happily to my little children on the phone. We were having a video call.
âWe love you too, Mommy! We love you too! I canât wait to see you!â Janice said before ending the call.
That was my little daughter. Lukel was the name of her twin brother. Yup, those were my two adorable children.
They were both in Canada, living with Andreâs parents. I had decided not to bring them along for various reasons.
I was lying down on my bed when I heard a knock on the door. âCome in, itâs not locked.â
The door opened, and Andre stepped foot inside the room, dressed in his pajamas.
âYouâre still awake?â I asked, sitting down on the bed.
âYeah, Iâm not feeling sleepy,â Andre answered, walking close to me. He looked kind of tired and exhausted. âDoes your leg still hurt?â
âNot that much. The pain has gone down.â
âOh, right,â he said inaudibly. âThereâs this company I just finished discussing with, and weâre going to start a project with them, probably around next week.â
âBusiness discussions; no wonder you were asleep,â I teased him.
âItâs not that; Iâve just been thinking too much,â he explained.
âWhatâs the problem?â
âWell, thereâs this lady who Iâve been spending so much time with lately.â
âThe one youâre texting always, right?â I gave him a silly laugh, accompanied by a grin.
He laughed softly. âYes, the one Iâve been texting always.â The cast on his face didnât look so good, and I didnât like that at all.
âCome sit down next to me.â I patted the bed. Andre sighed and settled down on the bed, a few inches away from me. âI think the big manâs more comfortable now, right?â I joked.
âYeah, I guess,â he said softly, smiling narrowly. I could tell that was a forced expression.
âOkay, so tell me whatâs going on? Did anything bad happen to this lady? Did the two of you get into a heated argument or something?â
âNo, no, itâs not that.â
âThen what is it?â I asked him curiously.
He exhaled deeply. âTurns out she has a man.â
I stared at him for a moment. âWait a minute, hold on. So the girl you like, spending most of your time with, is in a relationship?â
âYes, I found out today,â he answered. âAnd you want to know the most confusing part? This lady kissed me on several occasions.â
âSay what now?â I raised an eyebrow.
âWeâve kissed about five times, and I thought she was into me. But I didnât just want to jump into a relationship. I was actually waiting for the perfect time.â
âAnd when was the perfect time?â
âI donât know.â He shrugged.
âYou were waiting for the spirit of your ancestors to tell you, right?â
âOh, please stop it.â He playfully pushed my face. âI just wanted us to spend more time together and get to know each other better.â
âI see,â I said, nodding. âSo how did you find out that this girl is in a relationship?â
âShe told me,â Andre answered, his expression turning sad. âAfter all the wonderful moments, I⦠I just donât even know what to say.â He sighed, running his hands through his hair.
âIâm sorry, friend,â I said, placing my hand on his shoulder.
âYeah, and you want to hear something else thatâs crazy?â He looked at me. âBoth of us had sex this one time.â
âHold on a minute. You guys had sex?â
âYes.â
âAnd she claims to have a boyfriend?â I took my hands off his shoulder and stood up right away. âThat means she was cheating on him with you.â
âGreat, so Iâm the side chick here.â
âYouâre not a girl.â I furrowed my brows at him.
âYeah, whatever,â he said nonchalantly. âBut itâs just so painful, you know. It was like she was playing with me.â
âYeah, she was definitely playing with you.â I nodded with my arms crossed. âAnd Iâm pretty sure she was after your money. Did you spend a lot on her?â
âLetâs see. I took her to the mall, bought different clothes for her, got her a new phone, and thenâ¦â he trailed off as he stopped counting with his fingers. He looked at me. âYeah, I spent a lot on her.â
âYup, I hope things are becoming clear now.â I sat next to him. âShe was just using you for your money;
she never really liked you.â
âWow, I canât believe she would do that,â he uttered in a low tone, thinking about this lady, Iâd say.
âBut youâll just have to. I mean, who doesnât know Andre Jones?â
âI met this guy today, and I introduced myself, but he just gave me a confused expression.â
I stared at him for a moment, with my mouth partly open. âOkay, but still, most people know Andre Jones, owner of The Vitality Group, a billionaire. Who wouldnât want to hang out with someone like that?â
Andre laughed, shaking his head. âDonât start praising me right now.â
âIâm just stating the truth. That girl was acting friendly all because of the money. Sheâs a gold digger, and you need to cut her off as soon as possible.â
âThatâs going to be so hard, you know.â
âI know, but you have to do it. Or else youâre going to keep getting your heart broken. And if there is anyone else whoâs acting that way, cut them off.â
××× guess youâre right,â Andre said, tilting his head.
The doorbell rang, and we looked at each other in confusion. Who would visit us so late at night, especially when it was raining heavily?
âAre you expecting anybody?â I asked Andre, and he shook his head, still trying to figure out what was going on.
The doorbell rang again.
doorbell rang for the third time.
âJust hold on, will you? Iâm coming!â I yelled loudly and approached the door. I opened it immediately, and I wasnât expecting to see this guy. âYou?â I exclaimed in absolute wonder.
LUKEâS POV âSo youâre cheating on me, huh? And you have the nerve to do it at my house?â I snarled at Harriet, giving her a threatening look. At this point, I could just grab her neck and choke her to death.
These people were really carrying out disgusting acts at the wrong place, which was really, really annoying. First, it was those useless individuals at my company. Now it was my own woman, the person who claimed to love no one else but me. Wow, you never really know what goes on behind your back.
âDonât blame me! I needed someone to satisfy me since you didnât want to,â Harriet fired back at me.
âWell, that someone should have satisfied you in his house!â I snapped. âYou know what? Just get out of my house.â
âBut itâs raining outside.â
âI donât care. Just get the hell out right now! I donât even want to see your face again.â
âHold on, what are you trying to say?â
âWhat does it look like Iâm trying to say?â I retorted.
âAre you breaking up with me?â
âI have no time to answer your questions. Just get out already.â
She moved closer to me with a whisper: âEight years, Luke. Eight years of being in a relationship with you. You want to end everything just like that?â
âI said leave.â I grabbed her arm and dragged her to the door. âAnd donât ever come back snarled the moment she was outside, and then I shut the door.
