Chapter 20
The Love From Vengeance
wasnât friendly.
âI think you know the reason why Iâve come here,â he said in a solemn tone.
2 PLANS ARIELâS POV by are you staring at me like that, huh?â Mason questioned, his tone still snarky along with âCan you please let go of me?â I uttered as he was squeezing my arm, and it hurt like hell.
âYour wish is my command,â he mockingly replied, and he shoved me backwards. I almost fell, but I managed to keep my balance.
Mason moved closer. âI came to tell you a few things. There have been some changes in my plans.â
âWhat do you mean by that?â I asked in a hushed tone.
Still wearing his mordant smirk, he began to walk around me in circles. âAs you can see, weâre no longer going with the first plan. Iâve thought about it and realized that I need to go to extremes to succeed in this mission. Well, we need to go extreme.â
âI still donât understand,â I said, giving him a puzzled look.
He stopped walking in circles. âHereâs the thing. Youâre not going to do all that business stuff with Luke anymore. You are going to marry him.â
His words shocked me. âWait a minute, you want me to marry Luke?â
âYes, it wonât be too difficult, will it?â
âLook, thereâs no way Iâm doing that. Iâd rather stick to the first plan.â
âToo bad.â He snapped his fingers and calmly said, âItâs already been canceled.â He wrapped his arm around my neck. âWeâll be following the new plan, and youâll have to marry Luke first POPLAND before we can proceed.â
I removed his hands from me. âLuke is my exâhusband.â
âYou think i donât know that?â
âThereâs no way Iâm marrying him. Find someone else to help you carry out this silly plan of yours.â
Mason simply chuckled. âYou know what I can do, right?â
I glared at him. âLook, why donât we just stick to the first plan? Iâll bring Lukeâs company down before you know it.â
âAnd weâre still going to bring it down,â Mason admitted. âBut if we want to do that, someone will have to be by his side, really close to him.â Mason then looked at me. âAnd that person is you.â
âSorry to say this, mister, but I canât.â I stood firm in my disagreement. âIâd rather die than become Lukeâs wife again.â
âOr would you rather let your little babies die?â Mason leaned closer, wearing a malevolent smirk. âJust imagine the headlines: two little children brutally stabbed to death.â
âDonât you even dare think about it.â My anger intensified.
âOh, Iâm already thinking about it.â He slowly pulled his face back. âAnd if you refuse to do as I say, Iâll have no other option but to follow through with it.â
âI thought you loved those children.â
âOh, donât get me wrong, sweetheart, I do.â Mason placed his hands on his chest. âBut the truth is, I love revenge more than anything else. And youâre going to help me execute my revenge. Refuse to do so, and youâll find yourself attending your childrenâs funeral. So, itâs your choice, miss, are you in?â
I didnât reply; I just continued to glare at him. He knew how much I loved my children, so he had put me in this difficult situation. Why did he have to tell me to marry Luke? Oh gosh, I donât even know what to do.
âNo response yet?â Mason chuckled. âI donât even understand why you find this situation so challenging. You hate Luke and want to get revenge for the hurtful things he did to you. So do 1.â
âYes, thatâs why we agreed that we would work together to ensure he goes bankrupt.â
âExactly!â Mason exclaimed. âAnd thatâs precisely what weâre doing here. Youâll get married to him, and then we can proceed with our plan.â
âHow?â
âDonât ask questions,â he replied curtly. âJust do as I say, alright?â
âWhy are you so heartless?â I whispered.
âSorry, but thatâs just life,â Mason replied with a shrug. âBeing good only brings pain, just like when you were married to that scumbag.â He yawned, stretching his arms. âI need to get. some sleep. Weâll continue this discussion tomorrow.â
He started walking, and when he reached the stairs, he stopped, turned around, and asked, âIs there any room available for me?â
âYes,â I answered, feeling downcast.
âCare to lead the way?â He smirked, gesturing towards the stairs.
I let out a long sigh and slowly walked in his direction.
This was just life, right? When you plan on doing something really mean and terrible, youâll just get struck hard. I was the only one who placed myself in this goddamn situation. Revenge, revenge, revengeâjust take a look at what that word has brought to me.
Because I became so influential, I thought I had it all. I wanted revenge, so I had to team up with Mason, not knowing about his other intentions. This came as a big blow to me, and it had me shattered in some way.
LUKEâS POV âGood morning, Luke.â
I opened my eyes only to find myself lying on the floor. I had fallen asleep after consuming too much alcohol last night. Riley was sitting nearby. With my eyes halfâopened, I sat up as well.
Damn, I couldnât believe I was really heartbroken last night that I had to take too much alcohol. And I couldnât believe Harriet would do such a thing. She claimed to love me, didnât she? She told me countless times that I was the only one in her heart and no one else. So why did she have to do something so disgusting?
Love was a word, and action was another. But when these two unified, it would actually bring tons of electrifying moments, along with a bond that could never be broken. But it was so sad that most people used the word âloveâ and failed to interfuse it with action.
âYouâre finally awake.â Riley smiled at me.
I looked around, holding my head. I felt quite dizzy. I focused my gaze on Riley. âHow long have you been sitting here?â
âItâs been about an hour,â she answered. âNo, I think itâs been two hours.â
âSo youâve just been here, watching me sleep?â
âWell, something like that. I was also talking to my friend on the phone.â
âOhh,â I mumbled quietly. âDid I snore?â
Riley couldnât help but giggle at my question. âWhy are you asking me that?â
âYouâre right.â lightly tapped my head. âWhy am I even asking you that?â
âSeems like that alcohol is still messing with your brain,â she teased, wiggling her fingers above her head.
I chuckled softly. âYou just love making fun of me, donât you?â
âAnd when have I ever made fun of you?â She crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow.
âLetâs see,â I pondered, trying hard to recall if she had indeed done that.
âCanât remember?â She chuckled. âThe alcohol is still messing with your brain.â Riley teased me again.
âSomeoneâs calling,â Riley said, getting up. My phone was ringing, and it was on the bed, so she picked it up and tossed it to me.
Jack was the one calling, and it took a few seconds before I answered the call.
âGood morning, Jack. How can I help you?â I asked, rubbing my eyes and shaking off drowsiness.
Jack replied, âSir, we have a problem.â
