Chapter 233
The Love From Vengeance
233: RETORTS ARIELâS POV I tiptoed into Janiceâs bedroom, careful not to wake her up. She looked so peaceful, her chest rising and falling gently as she slept. I couldnât help but smile at the sight of her.
I had gone to the bookstore early this morning to pick up some books for her. Last night, she had been begging me for the latest bestseller, and I couldnât resist spoiling her. Just when I placed the books on her nightstand, I saw her stir and slowly open her eyes.
âMom?â She mumbled sleepily, rubbing her eyes.
âGood morning, sweetheart,â I said, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. âTime to wake up.â
She groaned and buried her face in her pillow. âAlready? Canât I sleep for five more minutes?â
I chuckled and sat down on the edge of her bed. âNope. You have a full day ahead of you. And besides, I have a surprise for you.â
Her eyes widened with excitement. âReally? What is it?â
I handed her the books, and her face lit up. âOh my gosh, thank you, Mom!â She exclaimed, giving me a quick peck on the lips. âYouâre the best.â
I smiled and ruffled her hair. âAnything for my little bookworm. Now, get up and get ready. Weâre going out today.â
She sat up and stretched, yawning. âWhere are we going?â
âItâs a surprise,â I said, winking at her.
She rolled her eyes playfully. âFine. Iâll get ready. But Iâm not taking a bath.â
I raised an eyebrow at her. âAnd why not?â
âBecause I took one last night.â She shrugged.
I couldnât help but laugh at her antics. âNice try, but you still need to take a bath. We donât want you going out smelling like a skunk.â
She pouted, but I could see the amusement in her eyes. âFine, fine. Iâll take a quick shower.â
I watched as Janice reluctantly got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to take a shower. After that, I picked up one of the books I had bought for her and started flipping through the pages. It was a fantasy novel, one of my personal favorites. I sufled to myself, knowing that Janice would enjoy it just as much.
Deeply immersed in the story, I heard a knock on the door. I looked up to see one of the maids standing at the doorway.
âGood morning, Mrs. Ariel,â she greeted with a smile. âIs there anything I can help you with?â
I shook my head, âNo, thank you. I can handle it. But thanks for asking.â
She nodded and turned to leave, but then she paused and turned back to me. âOh, I almost forgot. Mrs.
Janiceâs breakfast is ready. Would you like me to bring it up to her room?â
I laughed silently. âThank you, once again. But I think Janice is still in the shower. Iâll take the breakfast up to her when sheâs done.â
The maid nodded and left the room, again leaving me to my reading.
LUKEâS POV âIf you donât want any more insults, I suggest you get out of here!â I snapped at my greatâaunt. Enough is enough! I was sick and tired of her irritating presence. Right now, I just wanted her to get the hell out of my sight.
âYou are still being rude, arenât you?â She spat back. âWhereâs the respect?â
âI should be the one asking you that. Whereâs the respect greatâaunt?
expected you to stoop this low. Come on, youâre better than that.â
âYou are crazy, Luke.â
I never âThatâs rich. Coming from the woman who just popped out of nowhere, saying she wants to take the wealth of someone who has been working hard for it.â
She chuckled. âYouâve really changed, havenât you?â
âNo, I never changed. You just never knew me.â
âIâm glad I do now. And trust me, Iâm going to change you in different ways.â
âNo need to be rude, but youâre not going to do any shit.â
âWow, wow, wow. You know what, Luke? Step out of the way.â
âWhat if I donât? What are you going to do about that?â
âOh god, where the hell did you get the nerve?â
âYou are family, greatâaunt Liliana. Iâm not going to lie about that. You were like my grandfatherâs best friend, thatâs correct. But that doesnât mean that Iâm going to let you talk nonsense or do shit here. If youâve come to this house to live with me, then you better behave yourself. Live in peace, and I donât want any trouble, I donât want chans, I donât want commotions.â
She wanted to slap me, but I was quick to seize her hand. âYou already did this. Not again.â I shoved her hand off.
âYou better listen to me, young man.â
âNo, you listen to me. This is my house and everything I have here; I work day and night for it. I suggest you show some respect, not just to me, but to my late grandfather. I believe he wouldnât want you doing this.â
âI donât really care about that man anyway. He chose not to care for me, so why should I care for him?â
âWhat? How didnât he care for you?â I quizzed her instantaneously.
âI left his life, and he didnât even bother to look for me.â
âSeriously? Thatâs what youâre going to say now? Thatâs your goddamn backup?â âItâs not a backup, you idiot! Iâm just telling you my feelings,â she retorted.
âYour feelings, you say. So, if you donât care about him, why have you come to take his wealth then?
Why didnât you just continue to live your life without coming back to our lives?â
My greatâaunt chuckled. âIt seems like you donât know the history of your grandfatherâs wealth.â
âWhat are you trying to say now, huh?â I asked her, raising an eyebrow.
âI helped your grandfather in establishing this business.â
âOh wow, how nice is that? Well, guess what? I donât care.â
âYouâre going to care, you idiot!â
âCan you please just go away? Itâs too early for this. I have to go to work and attend a business meeting. Get a lot of things done or something.â
âListen to me, young man!â
âIâll only be wasting my time.â I turned around, but she seized my hand. I glanced at her immediately.
âPlease, put an end to this drama.â
âIâm not putting on a drama here. Iâm just trying to make you understandâ¦â
âUnderstand what?â I cut her off.
âYou didnât let me finish.â
âCause you donât have to, okay?â I tugged my hand out of hers. âPlease, I just want peace. Iâve got a lot going on in my mind lately, and you bringing all this is only adding up, making things worse.â
âThatâs none of my business,â she told me coldly.
âYouâre right. Thatâs why you should get the hell out of here. I shouldnât even be wasting my time with you. Like, come on, this is so fucked up.â
âYour thoughts are as useless as you. But right now, Iâm just going to let you know one thing. This wealth, this success, this establishment. Your grandfather wouldnât have all these if it werenât for me.â
I looked at her in disbelief. âHow? What did y
