Chapter 277
The Love From Vengeance
277: TROUBLED ARIELâS POV I brought my phone out of my purse, while Bernardo could just stare at me. The worried expression was all over his face, but what could he do in this situation? Absolutely nothing. I couldnât belleve he would do this, I couldnât believe he would cheat on the woman he claimed to love with the whole of his heart. It was such a sad thing, you know. And life was fucked up itself.
âAre you seriously going to do this?â Bernardo questioned me, walking closer to me.
Glaring at him, I wanted to dial Lauraâs number. But staring into his eyesâthe way he looked so troubled and terrified -I decided not to. I was not like that. But I would now be seeing him in a different way, not the normal Bernardo. He broke my trust, and I could only imagine how his wife would be if she realized what a character he was. It was actually a painful thing to know this. But I wouldnât be the one revealing his cheating ass. His wife was going to catch him regardless, just like I did today. But he had better change this ugly attitude.
âYou know what?â I said it underneath my breath. âJust get her out of here.â
âAre you telling Laura about this?â
âJust get the woman out of here!â I yelled immediately. I couldnât help it. I was mad as hell. I composed myself anyway. âIâm sorry.â My tone was quite calm, and then I walked away.
LUKEâS POV I was driving home, still thinking about what happened earlier and how Leonardo died. The scene where he got shot was still revolving around in my head, every moment and every second of that time.
It was really sad, I wouldnât lie. So many people had left this world, and here I was, still breathing fine and living healthy, even though I had faced different situations where I almost left the earth. But I was still here. What a grace this was.
I stopped the car at some point, bringing out my phone, only to see Arielâs missed calls. Wow, she called me. That was actually nice. But calling her now was not the right thing. I wasnât in the mood to talk.
But fuck that, I loved this woman. So, I would always be in the mood to talk to her. I started calling her, and it didnât take long before she answered the phone.
âHey, Luke. Wassup, how have you been?â

âHey, Luke. Wassup, how have you been?â
Ariel, Iâm sorry.â
âSorry for what?â
*For not answering your calls, I was busy. I didnât even know the time you called.â
âI noticed that,â she told me.
âIâm sorry.â I apologized again.
âItâs okay, Itâs not much of a big deal anyway. So, how was work?â
âWell, it was kind of great.â
âKind of great?â
âYeah,â I answered in a whisper.
âYour voice doesnât sound too good. Anything wrong? Is there a problem?â She asked.
âNo, no, nothingâs wrong. Iâm just stressed right now.â
âDonât be stressed, okay?â
I smiled promptly. âThanks, sweetheart. Where are you now? Are you still at myâ¦â
âNo, no, Iâve gone home already,â she interrupted me. âI left long ago.â
âOh, I see,â I said lowly. âWell, can we meet?â
âYou want us to meet? Like, right now?â
âYes,â I answered. âI believe youâre free.â
âOf course, Iâm free.â
âThen that shouldnât be an issue.
âYeah, it shouldnât be.â
âSo, what about Janice?â I asked her. âHowâs my little girl doing?â
âSheâs fine. Just asleep right now.â
âHmm, I see. I can imagine her cute face.â
Ariel laughed. âWhere are you right now? Because itâs obvious that youâre not at your house.â
How do you know Iâm not at my house?â
Because you asked me if I was there moments ago. Duhh.â
I chuckled. âRight, I totally forgot.â
âOr you were just teasing me.â
âIf you want to put it that way.â
âSo, where can we meet?â Ariel inquired.
âWhere do you want us to meet?â
Youâre the one whoâs going to decide that, Luke. My head is blank of different locations.
right now because Iâm already in bed.â
âYouâre about to go to sleep?â
âI was just resting. But who am I to say no if sleep decides to take over?â She playfully replied.
I couldnât hold back a laugh. âAll you need to do is inform your sleep that your spouse is on his way to retrieve you.â
She laughed as well. âI hope youâre not picturing us in the DC Universe right now.
now âNo, Iâm not. But now that you mentioned it, âPlease donât,â she cut me off. âDonât do that, alright?â
âWhy? Youâre not a fan?â
âNot really.â
âBut your mom told me how you were crazy about Wonder Woman when you were little.â
âShe did that?â
âOf course she did. What are you going to say about that now, huh?â
âI was just a little kid back then.â
I let out a slight laugh. âI knew you were going to say that.â
âYes, I mean, come on. There are some things I did when I was little thatâs definitely not. working out for me now.â
Like you dancing in the rain?â
Ariel gasped immediately. âMy mom also told you that, didnât she?â
âNo, she didnât,â I answered, laughing.
âThatâs a lie. She did. Because there is no way you could ever have knowledge of that.â
âWhat makes you think so?â
âIsnât it obvious? You didnât spend my childhood with me.â
âSo?â
âDonât lie to me now, Luke. Admit it, my mother told you.â
I sighed. âOkay, fine. She did.â
âYeah, I knew that.â
âWell, I admitted it.â
âSo, Mr. Reynold. Where do you want us to meet?â
âHmm, letâs sayâ¦â I trailed off the moment I spotted a little girl running along the road, screaming. âIâll call you later, Ariel.â
âWhy? Anything wrong?â Ariel asked.
âHold on, Iâll get back to you,â I told her before ending the call. My eyes were still fixed on the little girl running toward me.
I got out of my car, not taking my eyes off the little girl. When she got closer, I realized it was Catherine, my motherâs daughter. What was she doing out here, on this lonely street, at this time of the night?
Something wasnât right around here.
As she continued to run, I got in the way. And when she had gotten close, I grabbed her hand.
âLet me go! Let me go!â She pleaded, tears going down her countenance.
âCalm down! Itâs me, Luke, your big brother! Well, something like that.â
âLet go! Let me go!â She screamed as she kept on hitting me. And she almost hit my balls, but I was quick to seize her handâclose call.
âStop it, okay? Stop it!â I shook her vigorously till she was finally calm. That was challenging.
I squatted to her level, looking into her eyes as if tears were coming out. âWhatâs the problem? Why are you crying?â
She didnât reply but kept on shedding tears. I cleaned her eyes.
âTell me, whatâs wrong? Whoâs chasing you?â
She sniffled. âItâs him.â
âWho exactly?â
I heard footsteps forthwith. Catherine turned around while I looked in that direction.
