Chapter 298
The Love From Vengeance
298: MONEY TALKS LUKEâS POV We were still in the car as Ariel chuckled. âDeal, no honey on our next adventure. But maybe Iâll bring some bear repellent, just in case.â
I raised an eyebrow, pretending to be offended. âAre you implying that Iâm not enough to scare off bears?â
She laughed, âOh, no, not at all. Iâm just thinking of extra protection for our future escapades.â
âFair enough,â I said, starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot. âBut next time, letâs stick to less adventurous activities, like picnics in the park or bingeâwatching Netflix.â
Ariel nodded, still grinning. âSounds like a plan. As long as youâre by my side, Iâm up for anything.â
âYeah, but donât too be scared next time,â I taunted her, trying to see her reaction.
Arielâs grin turned into a playful scowl. âScared? Me? Please, Iâm as brave as they come.
I chuckled, teasing her further. âOh really? So you werenât the one clinging to me like a koala bear back there behind the bushes?â
Her eyes widened in mock indignation. âI was not clinging! I was⦠strategically positioning myself for safety.â
âSure, sure,â I said with a smirk. âStrategically positioning yourself to use me as a shield against the bear.â
Ariel crossed her arms, trying to maintain her facade of bravery. âWell, you know what they say, Luke.
Behind every brave person is someone even braver whoâs willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good.â
I couldnât help but burst into laughter. âOh, so now Iâm the sacrificial hero in this scenario?â
âExactly!â she exclaimed with a grin. âYouâre the unsung hero of our bear encounter.â
I shook my head, still chuckling. âFine, fine. Iâll accept my role our relationship.â
as the fearless protector of Ariel leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. âAnd Iâll continue to be the brave one who 60 240 MONEY TALKS fearlessly drags you into all sorts of crazy situations.â
âSounds like a perfect balance.â I smiled at her. âSo, itâs still early in the morning. Where do you want to go next?â
âTo the river? So we can jump inside and get chased by sharks,â Ariel playfully replied, smirking at me.
âYou have got to be kidding me, Ariel.â
âNo, Iâm not. Why would I be joking?â
âBecause I can see it right in your face. Itâs written boldly.â
I laughed, shaking my head. âAlright, fine. But if weâre getting chased by sharks, Iâm definitely bringing the honey this time.â
âYou didnât even bring honey in the first place.â
âI know. I was just talking shit, since you were talking shit.â
âAnd thatâs bullshit,â Ariel said, her tone becoming serious all of a sudden.
âWell, itâs not compared to yours. Like, seriously, Ariel, sharks? Thatâs some nextâlevel insanity.â I glanced at her incredulously.
She burst into laughter, her eyes sparkling with mischief. âCome on, Luke, whereâs your sense of adventure?â
âI think itâs right where it should be, firmly planted on solid ground,â I retorted, unable to suppress a grin.
She playfully nudged my arm. âYou know I was just joking, right?â
âSure, sure,â I said, mimicking her earlier response. âJust like how you were âstrategically positioningâ
yourself close to me back there with that bear around.
She grinned sheepishly. âOkay, okay, guilty as charged. But you have to admit, it made for a thrilling adventure.â
âOf course Iâll admit that. I was the one who took you there after all.â
âOh thank you, mister.â
I chuckled, shaking my head. âYou definitely keep life interesting, Ariel.â
As we continued driving, Ariel reached over and turned on the radio. The announcerâs voice filled the car, talking about outrageous ideas to surprise your partner.
Ariel and I exchanged a bemused glance before she quickly reached to switch off the radio.
âLooks like even the universe agrees that your sharkâchasing plan was a bit out there,â I remarked, breaking the brief silence.
Ariel laughed, leaning back in her seat. âYeah, perhaps we should stick to more grounded activities for our next escapade.â
âAgreed,â I said, reaching over to intertwine my fingers with hers. âAs long as Iâm with you, Ariel, every moment is an adventure worth cherishing.â
She squeezed my hand affectionately, her gaze softening. âLikewise, Luke. Letâs keep making memories together, even if they involve fewer sharks.â
âYouâre still with the shark idea, arenât you?â
Ariel laughed. âCanât help it.â
I stopped the car abruptly as I spotted two young guys getting into a heated argument on the road ahead.
âAriel, we should probably stop those guys before one of them gets hurt,â I said, glancing at her.
âDefinitely,â she agreed, her expression serious as we both stepped out of the car and approached the scene.
âHey, guys, whatâs going on here?â I called out, trying to diffuse the tension.
But the boys ignored my question, their voices rising in anger as they continued to hurl insults at each other.
âStop!â I yelled, stepping between them as they squared off, fists clenched.
âWhatâs the problem?â I asked, trying to get to the bottom of the situation.
One of the boys, his face flushed with anger, pointed accusingly at the other. âHe tried to have sex with my girlfriend!â/
I sighed, shaking my head, and glanced at Ariel, who shrugged, her face turned away.
The other guy shook his head vehemently. âThatâs not true! Sheâs not even his girlfriend!â
I âAlright, alright, calm down,â I interjected, trying to maintain control of the situation. âIs there any way we can resolve this peacefully?â
MONEY TALKS But the boys were still adamant, their tempers flaring as they refused to back down.
Thinking quickly, I reached into my pocket and pulled out two hundredâdollar bills, handing one to each of them. âHere, are we good now?â
They both eyed the money hesitantly before nodding, begrudgingly accepting the gesture.
âGood,â I said firmly. âNow, go your separate ways and let this be the end of it.â
As they walked away, I turned to Ariel, shaking my head in disbelief. âWell, that was certainly unexpected.â
She chuckled, shaking her head. âYou never know what youâll encounter on the road.â
âTrue,â I agreed, grateful that the situation had been resolved without any violence. âLetâs get back in the car, shall we?â
Ariel nodded, flashing me a reassuring smile as we climbed back into the car and drove off, leaving the chaos behind us.
As we settled back into the car, my phone buzzed with an incoming call. I glanced at the screen and saw it was one of the maids from my mansion. Curious, I answered.
âHello?â
âMr. Luke, itâs Stephanie,â the maidâs voice crackled through the phone. âIâm sorry to bother you, but the house is a bit⦠chaotic at the moment.â
I furrowed my brows, wondering what could have possibly gone wrong so early in the morning.
âChaotic? How so?â
âItâs Randy and Ethan, sir,â Stephanie explained. âTheyâre playfully wrestling all over the place and have made quite a mess.â
I couldnât help but chuckle at the image of my two little guys causing havoc. âAh, I see. Donât worry, Stephanie, Iâll take care of it when I get home. Thanks for letting me know.â
I ended the call and turned to Ariel, still grinning at the absurdity of the situation. âSeems like our morning trips arenât the only ones getting wild today.â
Ariel raised an eyebrow, curiosity evident in her expression. âWhatâs going on?â
