Chapter 390
The Love From Vengeance
390: YEARNING FOR YESTERDAY ARIELâS POV With leaden steps, I walked into the hospital, moving in the hall, feeling broken. All I could think of was Luke. The moment he tapped my shoulder, just when happiness had overshadowed me, he gave me a shocking response in return.
I didnât even know what to say; I had no idea what to do. This was not what I wanted; I had been waiting. all this time for him to finally open his eyes. Life, my friend, was really messed up. And my journey all these days had been dark; we werenât going to lie about that.
Different situationsâglee, desolation, painâwere where the tears were shed. All these actually work out together, and my series has been the type that no one would wish to have, although I smiled in some moments. Not every time, because one way or another, the arrows were going to hit me strastraight away kept on wandering through the sterile corridors of the hospital; my mind felt like a tangled web of emotions, each strand pulling me deeper into solitude. Memories of happier times with Luke mingled with the harsh reality of his current condition, creating a whirlwind of conflicting feelings.
I couldnât shake the image of his vacant expression when he delivered that shocking response. It felt like a betrayal, a punch to the gut after all the hope and anticipation I had built up during his recovery.
1 Every step I took echoed with the weight of uncertainty, each footfall a reminder of the unknown path ahead. It was a lonely journey, navigating the warren of my own thoughts and fears without anyone to lean on.
But even in this pain and terrible situation, with a broken heart full of despair, I wouldnât let despair consume me entirely. I had to find a way to make sense of this chaos and generate light in this darkness.
With a heavy heart and trembling hands, I pushed forward, clinging to the hope that somewhere along this solitary path, I would find the power to endure. And trust me, I would do everything in my power to bring those memories back into his head. The devil wouldnât dare to stop me.
I treaded into Lukeâs room, my hand reaching to open the door, and a deep sigh was what escaped my lips. No lie, I was still hurt, but this is the present now. The only thing I hoped for currently was to put an end to this. I wanted this episode to pass away and let something better come. Something that would always put a smile on my face. Because anyone in my shoes would wish for that.
I finally opened the door, and there he wasâsitting on the bed, a quiet expression on his face as he looked around. His eyes met mine; the gaze lasted for quite a long time till he eventually took his face.
away.
Crossing my arms, I exhaled deeply and walked closer to him. I settled down next to him on the edge of the bed. The both of us sat down in silence, with my eyes narrowing. And LukeâI didnât know what he was thinking, but I hoped it was about me.
Crazy right? Since he didnât remember me anymore, Why would he be thinking about me?
âLuke,â I said softly, breaking the silence.
He slowly took a look at me, and I did the same.
âPlease, you need to make everything clear to me. Who are you, and what am I doing in this hospital?â
He Inquired.
âSo you really donât remember?â I asked him in a calm tone.
He shook his head. âI do remember. My name is my business, butâ¦I just donât know you. I havenât seen you before, and youâre right here with me, sitting in this hospital with me. The look on your face says something.â
âThe look on my face says something.â I interrupted him. âWhat does it say?â
He looked at me for a moment before letting out a deep sigh. âI canât actually tell. You know, I donât even know why Iâm at this hospital. I should probably be at work right now, carrying out a business meeting. âI shouldnât be in this room, putting on this, with all these things fixed on me.â
He sighed again, taking his eyes elsewhere.
âI totally understand you. I know where youâre coming from,â
âYou do?â He glanced at me incontinently.
âOf course I do, Luke. I am your wife.â
âYou are my wife?â He shot me a confused face.
âYes, I am your wife, Luke. We are legally married.â
After scanning me for some seconds, still with the puzzled face, he shook his head, clearly not agreeing to what I was bringing out to him. âNo, no, last time I checked, Iâm not married.â
âOf course, youâre not married because you canât remember the part where we had to carry out our wedding. You lost your memory, Luke. You lost your memory.â
âI lost my memory.â He asked, and his tone was calm, slow, and filled with confusion.
âYes, you did. And now you donât remember anything. You donât remember the part where your grandfather wanted you to marry me. You donât remember our first wedding night, which was kind of messed up and terrible. Iâm not going to talk too much about that. And crap, you donât remember anything at all. Itâs like you lost half of your memory.â
E He gave me a showâme face, and I had to acclimate my words.
âWell, you didnât lose half of your memory. Only the remarkable moments,â I stated, not looking at him.
âRemarkable moments.â
âYes,â I responded with a nod.
âAnd by remarkable moments, what do you mean?â
I fixed my eyes on him. âWell, weâve spent a lot of great times together. And I canât start mentioning them one by one.â
âWhy canât you?â
I was suspended, and my tone became low as I took my eyes downward. âThereâs been so much pain, honestly. A lot of years passed by, lots of time was wasted, and there were a lot of lives lost. Betrayals,.
andâ¦â
I sighed again. âTaking my mind back to those times?âIt hurts.â
Luke murmured, âWow, itâs such a shame that I cannot even begin to visualize any of this.â
I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts before continuing. âI know itâs hard to grasp, Luke.
But you have to trust me on this. Weâve been through a lot together, both good and bad.â
He furrowed his brows, a hint of frustration crossing his features. âI wish I could remember, Ariel.âI really do.â
âAnd I wish I could do something to bring those memories back for you. âBut for now, we just have to take it one step at a time,â I replied, my voice tingling with sadness.
He nodded slowly, a solemn expression settling over his face. âSo, what do we do now?â
âWellâ¦â I wanted to talk, but then I noticed how he placed his hand on his head, making a pained face.
âLuke!â I blurted out promptly, fixing my eyes on him only. The painful expression on his countenance aggrandized me, and it had me really worried.
âLuke, whatâs going on? Are you okay?â I held his other hand.
He screamed in pain immediately.
