Chapter 46
The Love From Vengeance
46: OLD POPS DICKSON ARIELâS POV Luke and I stood still while the baldheaded man kept his gun aimed at us without wavering. His large belly stood out prominently beneath his shirt, and his face was adorned with a snowy white beard.
We couldnât help but notice the scar right across his cheek, and adding to the unsettling image, his mouth revealed a set of decayed teeth, which was kind of disgusting. Iâd rather eat a dog poop than kiss those little guys for a million bucks.
âAnd what are you two doing here?â The baldheaded man asked, moving closer to the both of us. Donât you know that this is my yard?â he added with a raised eyebrow.
Luke and I glanced at each other, with puzzled faces.
âAm I talking to statues?â He barked, and we had to look at me that very moment. Making a sound with his gun, he was fully prepared to fire at us. Luke and I lifted our hands right in the air.
âSorry to intrude sir. But trust me when I say this; we had no single clue this was your yard. We didnât even know this place belongs to anyone,â I spoke in a calm tone, trying to defuse the situation of course.
âOh donât lie to me now. I had a signboard right there.â the baldheaded man gestured toward a signboard, a little bit far from us, which read: Old Pops Dicksonâs yard. No trespassing.
And boy trust me, I had no idea that, was right there. So did Luke, I think. We were just running like chickens who got their heads cut off.
âYou had any idea that was there?â Luke asked me in a whisper.
âHell no,â I whispered back.
âSilence!â The baldheaded man shrieked immediately, causing me to tremble. Luke just shook his head in a silent laugh. He didnât even seem terrified at all.
âHavenât you heard that those who enters Old Pops Dicksonâs yard never comes out alive?â The baldheaded man continued with his infuriated tone.
âWe havenât heard about this place before,â Luke said after a chuckle. âAnd by the way, you need to change that name of yours. I mean, come on, you should be in your early fifties or something.â

âI think you need to be more respectful,â I whispered to Luke.
âTrust me, I got this,â he responded in hushed tones, feeling so high of himself. What a jerk.
Hearing the sound of the man adjusting his gun, the two of us set our eyes on him once again. The look on the manâs face could tell that he was so desperate to end the lives of both of us. Well, thatâs what I think.
And as for Luke, his expression showed how he had no single fear in him. He even clenched his fists 46: OLD POPS DICKSON tightly, scrutinizing the baldheaded man whose gun was still pointing at us.
As for me, I was just wondering what could happen in this situation. Terror was right within me, and my wish right now, was that there should be no single bullet in that gun.
âWhat are you going to do? Blow our brains off?â Luke spoke courageously.
âIâm going to shoot you both to death, rip your hearts out, cut you both into pieces, and feed your worthless bones to the dogs,â the man shot Luke a comeback, and his tone was really threatening.
It was like he wasnât even going to hesitate to carry out the things he had freshly said. Just great.
From a moment of sorrow and grief, to a frightful scene of bullets, to this; a baldheaded man who was about to go crazy. Not a great day for me, right?
âOh Iâm so scared,â Luke said in a dramatic tone, extremely sarcastic. I shot him a crazy look instantly, and hit his belly.
âWhat was that for?â He questioned me.
âYou need to behave if you still want to enjoy that wealth of yours,â I tried to give him some senses.
âSpeak for yourself,â Luke retorted, and I frowned incontinently.
Then, a bullet was released in the air. Luke and I turned to the baldheaded man forthwith, only to see his gun pointing at the air.
He pointed it back at us. âDonât think Iâm afraid to release these bullets at the both of you. So if I were you guys, Iâll start begging for mercy now.â
âAnd if we beg for mercy, are you going to spare our lives?â Luke asked, knowing the answer to his question, Iâd say.
âI might spare the life of the pretty lady right there,â the man spoke, looking at me.
Lukeâs eyes were also on me, but he eventually took his gaze back to the baldheaded man. âWhat about me?â
âAbsolutely not!â The man replied immediately.
âYou hate me that much?â Luke asked him, raising an eyebrow.
âHell yeah!â The man answered promptly. âAnd Iâm going to blow your fucking brain off.â
He was about to pull the trigger, but I got in the way, shielding Luke. As much as I wanted vengeance, I didnât want this idiot to die just yet.
âAriel, what are you doing?â Luke asked lowly, trying to push me from his front, but I refused to be moved by his actions.
âAriel,â he called my name again, but I ignored him, fixing my eyes on the baldheaded man.
âIâm really sorry for his behavior towards you. I promise, it wonât happen again.â
46: OLD POPS DICKSON Luke laughed. I threw him a stare that was supposed to give him senses. But he seemed to have none to realize thatm I took my eyes back to the baldheaded man, and he raised an eyebrow, with a face that was like â
seriously?â, clearly pointing out to Luke. I didnât even know what to do. I just had to sigh and shift back.
It seemed like the billionaire wanted to take care of things around here.
Luke, with so much boldness started walking to the baldheaded man.
âDonât come any closer,â the man warned Luke.
Luke still moved like he wasnât the one the man was talking to. âYou said you were going to shoot, right? So go ahead,â Luke told him.
I couldnât help but wonder where he had gotten all this courage from. But trust me, the situation didnât look that good, with Luke acting all tough and mighty.
If he had just tried to humble himself for a minute, Iâm pretty sure the baldheaded man would have let us go easily. But no, it was all about pride. And yeah, itâs no doubt heâs crazy as well.
Luke finally got close, looking into the eyes of the man, who eventually lowered his gun. âSee, I knew it.
You canât shoot me. Iâve seen it in your eyes already. The passion to save, not kill. The thirst to help the lost one home.â
I gave Luke a puzzled face. How in the world did that attitude of his changed? And what the hell did he think he was doing?
Luke continued, âI know for a fact that youâre a nice man, and you only want to do whatâs right, protecting this place from the armed ones, the enemy. But believe me, we are not the enemy.â
âWe came here with no weapons, and we donât even have any intention of harming you, or anyone else around here. If there are any. We made our way to this forest, running for our lives.â
And when the man seemed to be captivated by Lukeâs talk, someone fired a gunshot to our direction.
But luckily, it didnât hit any of us. How lucky are we?
