Chapter 9
The Love From Vengeance
9 PARTY DISPUTE ARIELâS POV Luke, dressed boldly in his suit, had his arm stretched out to me. He was offering to dance with me, and I was just staring at him, simply surprised, without uttering a word.
What the hell was he doing? Was this really happening? I didnât really think so; I was probably thinking nonsense again.
âIs this real?â I asked, confused about what to do. I didnât know why I kept thinking about this man. I thought these past five years would have erased him from my head for good.
âWhat do you think?â He asked with a charming smile, winking at me.
I couldnât help but frown at him. Memories of our past flooded my mind, bringing back all the pain and hurt he had caused me. I turned away from him, not wanting to relive those moments.
âWhatâs the problem, pretty? Donât you want to dance?â Luke persisted, his hand still outstretched to me.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. âPlease pinch me,â I blurted out, my eyes still shut tight.
âPinch you?â Luke repeated, his tone sounding confused. âWhy in the world should I pinch you?â
âPinch me,â I repeated, opening my eyes to meet his gaze. âI need to make sure this isnât a dream.â
âInstead of pinching you, Iâd rather stick my fingers in your ass.â Luke teased.
And yeah, this wasnât some silly imagination of mine.
@ PARTY DISPUTE I gave him an unserious look. âYouâd rather stick your fingers in my ass?â I questioned him, raising an eyebrow.
âYeah, I think Iâve done that before.â He gave me a mocking smile.
âOkay, thatâs it!â I spoke up, my voice laced with irritation. âYou can go get yourself another lady. Dance with her, and when the two of you are done, you can stick your goodâforânothing fingers in her ass.â
Luke gave me an incredulous look, clearly taken aback by my outburst. âWow, I see Canada has changed you a lot.â
âNo! Thatâs where youâre mistaking,â I retorted without hesitation. âYouâre the one who changed me.â
He laughed in disbelief. âOh, come on now; by the time you left, you were a soft little pillow.â
âBut your bitter actions had to make me bitter!â
âDo you want to dance with me or not?â He tried to change the topic, but his hand still extended towards me.
âI donât want to dance. Iâve made it clear to you before. You can go find yourself another lady.â
He dropped his hand and turned around, surveying the people as they danced to the slow, romantic song. âI canât seem to find anybody. Most of the ladies here are middleâaged women.
11 I shrugged, not bothered by his predicament. âSo what? Go hit one of them,â I brought out, and he gave me a crazy look. âIâm pretty sure they must be interested in you.â
âWhy would you say that?â
âBecause all ladies are interested in you,â I replied dryly, bitterness creeping into my voice. â That was definitely why you never loved me or treated me right, am I not correct?â
PARTY DISPUT âSeriously? Youâre bringing this topic back again?â
âAnything wrong with that?â I raised an eyebrow. âIâm just giving you a brief summary of how wicked you are.â
âDo I look like a wicked man to you?â He queried, crossing his arms.
âDo you look like a wicked man to me?â I repeated his question in a mocking, tone. âLuke, do you want me to start telling you the terrible things you have done to me since day one? The hurtful words.â
âWell, donât blame me. Your parents just had to fix our marriage for money, knowing fully well that I had someone else in mind. If anyone were in my shoes, the person would have done the same thing.â
I chuckled in disbelief. âI donât really think so.â
He let out a frustrated sigh. âWhy am I even explaining myself to you?â
âBecause youâre feeling guilty.â
âWhat do you just say?â He asked without hesitation.
âKeep acting like you didnât hear me. Iâm not going to repeat myself.â I directed my eyes to the other people dancing.
âWhoâs this anyway?â Luke gestured towards Andre, who was still engrossed in his phone.â Your new boyfriend?â
âLet me just be clear to you: we didnât go out separate ways yesterday.â
âI know that,â he said nonchalantly.
âNo, you donât.â I gave him an acidic smile. âYouâre asking me this question, making it look like we divorced not too long ago.â
âIs he your boyfriend?â Luke arched an eyebrow. He seemed eager to get an answer concerning Andre.
âSometimes I wonder if you even have senses,â I muttered, wrapping my arm around Andreâs neck before taking a look at Luke once again. âDonât this face look familiar to you?â
Gazing at Andre, Luke furrowed his brows. I could see the bewilderment in his eyes. âIt doesnât ring a bell.â
âWell, this is the owner of Vitality Group.â I introduced Andre, and I still noticed how he was giving that phone all of his attention. So I snatched it from him.
âHey!â He gave me a bizarre look at that moment. âWhy would you do that?â
I cleared my throat. âI was introducing you to someone.â
Andreâs eyes met Lukeâs, and he quickly shook hands with him. âLuke Reynold, itâs an honor to be in your presence.â
âSee, he even knows who you are,â I said to Luke.
âThatâs because Iâm famous.â Luke tried to make a comeback.
âFamous?â I scoffed. âDonât make me laugh, sir; you just donât have brains to recognize people.â
âUhmm, donât you think thatâs kind of offensive?â Andre gave me a knowing look. âI mean, itâs his grandfatherâs birthday; we should be nice to him.â
âHis grandfatherâs birthday, exactly. But not his birthday,â I vocalized. âSo all the curses in the world can be thrown right at him; he deserves it anyway.â I glared at Luke.
âYou can go to hell,â Luke spat at me, his eyes filled with disgust.
âWell, Iâve already been there when I was living with you. Fortunately, I managed to break free,â I replied, forcing a fake smile.
âYou know what?â Lukeâs anger grew, his voice escalating, âYou are the most irritating and stupid person I have ever seen!â
âAnd yet, you wanted to dance with me.â I maintained my plastic grin. âHow fascinatingâ
âWho the hell do you even think you are?!â He snarled, attracting the attention of those around us. âYou think youâre some big shot, huh?â
As people started to stare, including Sir Reynold, I realized the situation was getting out of hand. The music abruptly stopped.
âYouâre not going to say anything now, huh? Who are you afraid of, the people? You donât want them to see your true colors and your disgusting attitude?â Luke continued, disregarding the growing audience.
âWhat attitude?â I raised an eyebrow, trying to understand his accusations. âWhy are you being so foolish? Itâs best if you calm down and keep quiet. Show some common sense, for goodnessâ sake.â
Andre approached me and whispered in my ear, âThatâs enough.â
âNow you want me to calm down?â Luke moved closer, not caring about who was looking. The expression on Sir Reynoldâs face clearly showed his disapproval of the situation.
âLukeâ¦â
âJust stop it, will you?â Andre interrupted me in a hushed tone. âCanât you see everyoneâs watching?â
âDo you want to know something, Ariel?â Luke snarled, completely unhinged. âYou will never be loved!
Not in this life or the next! No one will ever love you!â
His words stung, reminding me of my earlier foolish daydreams. It hurt, but I resolved to hold myself together.
@ PARTY DISPUTE Andre tightened his grip on my hand. âDonât do anything,â he whispered urgently.
Luke continued with his hurtful words, still drawing the attention of everyone around us. Suddenly, darkness enveloped the area as the lights went out. Then, a gunshot pierced the air.
