Every time he gave in to Li Zhiwei’s whims and fancies, he had let Yan Shanyue down. The more he condoned Li Zhiwei’s behavior, the more disappointed Yan Shanyue became. The feelings had gradually accumulated to a point where she could no longer ignore the problem.

She was his wife, but he never supported her.

“Zhiwei, I’m saying this to you again. Good night. Don’t call me at night in the future. If there’s anything you want to talk about, you can call me during the day. It’s not appropriate for us to be talking on the phone so late at night.”

“Yes, I understand. Qie Wang, I just wanted to let you know that my father and I will be moving overseas. Please say sorry to Shanyue for me. Good night.”

Qie Wang put down the phone and looked at Yan Shanyue with guilt. He noticed that she had been looking at him.

He tried to explain hurriedly. “Shanyue, there’s nothing between me and Zhiwei.”

Yan Shanyue turned to the other side. When she saw the roses by her bedside, she said bitterly, “We’ve been married for 30 years, yet you’ve never given me a single rose. I didn’t expect the first time you’d be giving me flowers would be in the hospital…”

Qie Wang said with utmost sincerity. “Shanyue, I can give you flowers every day if you want…”

Qie Wang opened his mouth but did not know what to say. He was in no position to say anything else to refute her.

“Qie Wang, we’re already divorced. You don’t have to come to the hospital anymore. We’re no longer married, so you’re not obligated to take care of me.”

Yan Shanyue really did not wish to see Qie Wang again. Life was so short and she had already spent so many years with him. Why should she waste any more of her time with him now that they were divorced?

She had wanted a divorce because she yearned for a new life. She wanted to start afresh and live for herself.

Besides, how could she forgive him simply because he had asked for forgiveness? Life was not so simple.

“Shanyue, I know you have suffered much in the past because of me. Please believe me. I’ll change.”

Yan Shanyue looked very peaceful. None of that mattered to her anymore. Her heart had turned cold after so many years.

“Qie Wang, we’ve been married for so many years. Don’t you know me by now? I’m not a young girl in her twenties anymore. I’m not the sort of person who would use divorce as a threat. I mean it when I said I wanted a divorce, and I won’t change my mind. I spent the past 20 years thinking about whether or not we should continue our lives together as a married couple. As you said before, you are a good man. You honored your promise to your friend and you took care of his sister, which is admirable to see in a man. I don’t want to take that away from you.”
