The White Wolf Series Book 3 â CHAPTER 127 â Loophole
(Andrew POV)
I rushed back toward Loganâs office.
My b*dy was shaking.
I didnât like him. I didnât f*ucking want him near Emma.
Something about him was making my skin crawl. Something about him kept Asher on constant edge. Something about him made me nervous.
I didnât trust him. Not even a little bit.
Logan? I mind-linked him.
Yes? He answered immediately.
Where are you? I asked.
My office. He responded with a hint of worry in his voice. Is everything okay?
Is Emma there? I asked.
I really didnât want to talk about Nathan in front of Emma. No matter what, he was her mate. I didnât want to hurt her by saying something wrong.
She is. Logan answered. Whatâs wrong?
I donât want to talk about it in front of her. I sighed. I donât like him, Logan. Something about him is making me so f*ucking tense.
I know. Logan sighed. Weâll talk about it later.
I was in front of his office. I knocked and opened the door.
Logan and Emma were sitting on the couch. Emma was sitting on Loganâs lap. Her head was on his shoulder, and she barely looked up at me. She looked exhausted.
My heart clenched painfully.
âHow are you, love?â I asked, knowing what a stupid question that was.
Emma looked up at me and took a deep breath.
âTired.â she mumbled. âI wish that I had a solution for this problem.â
She looked up at Logan and furrowed her eyebrows.
âWell, I do have a solution, but Logan doesnât want to listen.â Emma said, making Logan close his eyes and take a deep breath.
âI am not marking you until we find proof that I am really your Goddess-given mate.â Logan said. âI am not going to kill my own mate.â
I narrowed my eyes at my sister, and a quiet growl escaped me. She looked at me, still frowning.
âLogan is right.â I said sternly. âHe canât mark you until we know for sure.â
âI know for sure.â Emma said quietly.
âI trust you, baby.â Logan told her, making her look back at him. âI know in my heart that you really are mine. I know in my heart that our bond isnât fake. I know in my heart that it wasnât created by some curse. I knowâ¦â
âWhy wonât you mark me then?â Emma interrupted him.
âIf there is even the slightest chance that we are wrongâ¦â Logan spoke, his voice breaking.
He cupped her cheeks and took a deep breath.
âI need proof.â he said. âI need to find solid evidence that you wonât die when I sink my canines into your n*eck.â
âThere has to be something.â I mumbled, making them both look at me.
I furrowed my eyebrows and rubbed my chin.
âThe second bond was created by the curse, right?â I said, making them nod. âThere has to be a way to break it without marking Emma. There has to be a way to find out which one was created by magic.â
âThere has to be a loophole.â my sister mumbled.
I nodded.
âWhere are the books we found in Samuelâs cave?â Emma asked as she stood up.
âLocked up in a safe in our home.â Logan said.
Emma started pacing around.
âWe need to give them to Anna.â Emma said. âShe knows how to read them. Something about breaking the curse could be written in there.â
âShe said that she already knows whatâs written in those books.â Logan said, looking up at Emma.
She stopped pacing and looked at him.
âSamuel had those books for years.â Emma said. âI donât believe that she remembers every single detail from those books.â
âI doubt that itâs written there anyway.â I mumbled, making Emma look at me.
âYes, but she is a witch.â Emma said. âShe knows magic. If she found out more about the curse and how it was created, she could figure out how to break it too.â
She was making some good points.
Logan furrowed his eyebrows, looked down at his lap, and sighed. âI donât really trust her yet.â Logan mumbled, clenching his fists. âWhy?â Emma asked. âShe has done nothing wrong.â
Logan looked up at her and took a deep breath.
âWhat if she uses knowledge from the books to hurt you?â Logan asked, making me tense up. âWhat if there was something dangerous written in there?â
âWhat use do we have of them if they are just sitting in our safe?â Emma sighed as she started pacing again. âAnd why would she hurt me? She could have done it by now, but she didnât.â
I completely understood Loganâs fear.
I was terrified that someone would hurt her. I was suspicious of everything and everyone. I still wasnât sure about Anna either.
But Emma was right. Anna could have hurt her, but she didnât. She could have kept quiet about Nathan, but she didnât. She seemed like she genuinely wanted to help.
âEmma is right.â I said, making Logan look at me. âWe need to give the books to Anna.â
Logan closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and tightened his jaw.
âWe arenât going to find anyone else who knows how to read them.â Emma said as she sat down next to Logan and placed her hand on his back. âWeâve been trying to do that for four years. Something that could help us could be written in there.â
She was right. She was completely right.
How the f*uck did she manage to think more clearly than Logan and I even now when she was in distress?!
Logan looked at her and gave her a small nod.
âOkay.â he mumbled and looked at me. âI need you to guard Anna while she is reading them. You are the only one I trust.â
âWhy do you want him to guard her?â Emma asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
âI donât trust her, Emma.â Logan sighed, looking back at her. âI need someone I trust to make sure that she wonât steal the books. I need someone I trust to make sure that she doesnât give the information she finds out to someone else. Itâs the only way I will allow her to get near those books. Itâs non-negotiable, Emma.â
I agreed with him. We needed to be careful
âI agree.â I said, making them both look at me. âBetter safe than sorry.â
Emma sighed and nodded. âOkay.â
Logan wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her to him.
I took a deep breath.
Everything would be okay. Everything would have to be okay.
I couldnât lose my sister. Not again.
