(Emma POV)
15 more minutes.
I moved the food around the plate with my fork. I didnât know what to talk about anymore.
We covered everything. We talked about favorite foods, favorite books, and favorite movies. We talked about our childhoods and our parents. Weâve covered everything and I had nothing else to ask him.
His favorite food was steak. He didnât have a favorite book because he couldnât decide between a couple of them. If he had to choose, he would probably pick The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. He didnât have a favorite movie. He couldnât choose between the three movies in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He loved Lord of the Rings.
I knew everything, and I didnât need to know more.
I didnât want to know more.
I wanted this to be over.
I wanted to see Logan.
âCan I ask you something, Emma?â Alpha Nathan asked, making me look up at him.
He wasnât eating anymore. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his c*hest. His eyebrows were furrowed, and he was biting his lower l*ip.
âSure.â I said, putting my fork down.
âIf Logan was out of the picture, would you become my mate?â he asked.
My heart sped up. What did he mean by that? Would he do something to Logan? No! I couldnât let him.
âI am not going to let you hurt him.â I said, clenching my fists and narrowing my eyes at him. âYou are going to have to get through me to get to him!â
I felt anger growing inside me. I wasnât going to let him hurt my mate. I was a f*ucking White Wolf. I would bite his head off if he tried to hurt Logan.
âCalm down, Emma.â Alpha Nathan said. âI didnât mean it like that. I canât kill him because I would lose you.â
I studied his face for a second.
âWhat did you mean then?â I asked, trying to calm down a little.
âIf you met me before Logan, would you be with me right now?â he asked.
His question surprised me.
I didnât know the answer to that. I couldnât imagine my life without Logan. He is in all my memories. He is my mate. He is my best friend. âEmma?â Alpha Nathan asked.
âI donât know.â I mumbled. âI canât imagine that.â
âIf you were born in my pack, I would be the first one you met.â Alpha Nathan said. âYou would love me. You would be with me.â
I took a deep breath and looked down at my plate.
âI wasnât born in your pack, Nathan.â I said. âI was born here. I met Logan first.â
I looked back up at him.
âI canât know what would happen if I met you first.â I said. âMaybe we would be together, but maybe we wouldnât. We canât know that for sure.â
Alpha Nathan clenched his fists. I could tell that he wanted to say something, but he was interrupted when Liam walked into the dining room.
He approached our table with a smile on his face.
âWas everything okay, Luna?â he asked me politely.
âEverything was great, Liam.â I said, smiling back at him. âThank you so much.â
âAlpha Nathan?â Liam asked, looking at him.
âEverything was great.â Alpha Nathan said, forcing a smile on his
face. âThank you for this lovely meal.â
Liam bowed his head and picked up our plates.
I watched him as he left the dining room.
10 more minutes, and I would see Logan.
âI think we would be together.â Alpha Nathan said, making me look back at him. âIf you didnât meet Logan first, you and I would be together now.â
I stayed silent. I couldnât even imagine that.
âIt will happen, Emma.â Alpha Nathan continued as he placed his elbows on the table and leaned closer to me. âYou will leave him and go to my pack with me.â
The anger came back. I narrowed my eyes at him.
âI knew that I promised not to talk about it, but we have 8 minutes left.â he said. âYou will leave in 8 minutes. I might as well tell you what Iâve been dying to tell you since you walked through the door.â
I gritted my teeth.
âI donât have to listen, Nathan.â I said as I started to get up. âWe can finish the dinner 8 minutes early.â
Alpha Nathan stood up too.
âI want you to listen to me, Emma.â he said angrily. âYou are my mate! You belong with me!â
I turned around and rushed out of the room. I heard him following me. He grabbed my arm and turned me around before I could reach the door.
Tingles and sparks exploded on my skin. I didnât like it. I wanted them gone.
âThis dinner is over, Alpha Nathan.â I said, narrowing my eyes at him. âWe still have five minutes left, Emma.â he said, leaning closer to me.
I gulped and tried to get out of his grip. It was useless. His hold on me was too tight.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
âI am your Goddess-given mate.â he said. âYou are mine. You belong to me. I will take you back to our pack. We will be happy together, Emma.â
I didnât belong to him. He wasnât my Goddess-given mate. Logan was. I was never more sure of it than at that moment.
I managed to get my arm out of his grip.
He opened his eyes and looked at me.
âThe dinner is over, Alpha Nathan.â I repeated as I turned around and left the dining room.
He didnât follow me this time.
I didnât see Liam on my way out. I grabbed my coat and rushed outside.
âEmma!â Jake exclaimed as soon as he saw me.
I didnât even notice him. My eyes were on my mate. He was here. He was finally here.
âPlease follow Alpha Nathan back to his room, Jake.â I mumbled, keeping my eyes on my mate. âI will talk to you tomorrow.â
He said something else, but I didnât hear him. I couldnât listen to him right now.
I rushed to Logan. I rushed into his open arms.
âYou are here.â he mumbled as he wrapped me up in a tight hug.
I didnât even notice how tense I was until my b*dy started to relax in his arms.
âOf course I am.â I said as I looked up at him.
A strong smell of alcohol made me frown. I didnât even notice it before. I was too focused on feeling my mateâs arms around me again. âHave you been drinking?â I asked.
âMaybe a little.â Logan said.
âHe is lucky that he is a werewolf.â I heard my brotherâs voice.
I looked at Andrew and smiled.
âHey, Em.â he said as he smiled back at me. âReady to go home?â âDefinitely.â I said.
I was more than ready. I wanted to shower, put on my pajamas, and cuddle with my mate. I needed it more than ever.
