The White Wolf Series Book 4 â CHAPTER SIX â Getting Ready
(Hunterâs POV)
âCan I come in?â I heard my dadâs voice.
I looked up and nodded.
I already knew that he was coming. I heard him approaching my office. âAre you getting ready?â dad asked.
âYes,â I said as I put the pen down. âIâm almost packed. I will leave in the morning.â
Dad nodded and sat down in the armchair in front of my desk. He looked nervous and worried.
âStop worrying, dad,â I sighed. âEverything is going to be okay.â
Dad took a deep breath and released it slowly.
âYou canât blame me for being nervous,â dad mumbled. âYou are going to the pack of the people who hate my guts.â
I gritted my teeth. I knew what happened between my dad and Alpha Logan and Luna Emma. I wasnât saying that they didnât have a good reason not to like my dad, but he changed so much. I wished that they would give him a chance to show them that he wasnât the same man anymore.
âEverything is going to be okay, dad,â I said. âThey are not going to hurt me.â
I knew a lot about Alpha Logan and Luna Emma. They were good people. I was thankful to them for letting my dad go. I would be an orphan now. I would grow up without him if they didnât show him mercy.
Dad ran his f*ingers through his hair.
âBoth Emma and her daughter have magic,â my dad said. âYou need to be careful.â
Emma and Logan had two children. Alpha Alexander and his twin sister Sophia. Alexander was the strongest Alpha in existence. His motherâs magic made him more powerful than the rest of us. He didnât inherit his motherâs magic, though. I didnât know much about his sister, but I knew that she had magic. Some were saying that she was even more powerful than her mother, but no one knew much about her. Logan and Emma kept her hidden from the rest of the world. They were protective of her. âI know, dad,â I said. âIâm sure that it will be okay. Iâm sure that they wonât hurt me.â
âJust stay away from them,â my dad said. âEspecially Emmaâs daughter. We donât know much about her, but people are saying that her magic is unpredictable but stronger than Emmaâs.â
I sighed and nodded. âI am aware, dad. I will be careful.â
Dad looked me up and down.
âYour mother will kill me if something happens to you,â dad said, making me chuckle a little.
Dad frowned.
âItâs not funny,â he said. âYour mom is scary when she is angry.â
I laughed, shaking my head.
âOh, I know,â I said. âI was on the receiving end of her anger a lot of times.â
Dad chuckled. âI know. I was afraid for you.â
Dad took a deep breath and a smile disappeared from his face.
âAre you sure that you want to go, Hunter?â he asked me. âYou donât have to, you know.â
I sighed and leaned back in my chair. I looked my dad in the eyes. âI am going dad,â I said. âI wonât waste an opportunity to make our pack better and stronger. I wonât waste an opportunity to help our pack grow. Iâve heard a lot about Logan and Emma. They donât seem like the people who would hurt me unless I threatened their family, which I definitely wonât do.â
Dad took a deep breath and nodded.
âI know, Hunter,â dad said. âI wish I could stop being nervous, but you are my child and itâs so freaking hard. You will understand one day.â
I smiled a little.
I couldnât see myself as a dad yet, but I wanted to be someday. I could see myself as a mate. I couldnât wait to meet her. I couldnât wait to have her next to me. I couldnât wait to hold her, cherish her, and protect her. My dad always told me how important mates were and after hearing his story, I knew why he was telling me that. He almost lost his mate and he didnât want the same thing to happen to me. I would never allow it, though. I would fight for her until I took my last breath.
âI know, dad,â I chuckled. âBut I am focused on our pack for now.â
My dad smiled at me.
âYou are an amazing Alpha,â he said. âI am so proud of you.â
My heart swelled.
âThank you, dad,â I said quietly.
I heard footsteps approaching my office. I knew it was my mom even before she entered my office.
âHey, honey,â my mom said as she opened the door. âDid you pack your bags?â
My dad turned around and smiled at my mom.
âI did, momâ; I said. âI am leaving early in the morning.â
My mom approached my dad and placed her hands on his shoulders. He took her hand in his and k*issed it.
âWhy are you two still here?â I sighed, remembering what they said yesterday.
Harry and I finally convinced them to go on a small vacation at one of our cabins on the lake. They said that they would leave today.
âWe are leaving in an hour,â my mom said. âI wanted to see you before we left. I wanted to tell you to be careful.â
âI know, mom,â I smiled. âDad already told me to be careful.â
My mom nodded and looked down at my dad.
âAre you ready to go, honey?â my mom asked.
Dad smiled and gave her a little nod.
âIf you donât text me regularly, I will come there and drag you back home,â my mom said as he looked back up and pointed a f*inger at me. âYou might be a big, bad Alpha now, but you are still my child and I can still ground you.â
I tried to hold back my laugh.
âI know, mom,â I said, biting the insides of my cheeks to stop myself from smiling. âI will text you.â
âI can see you smiling, Hunter Reed,â my mom said. âI am being serious.â âI know, mom,â I repeated.
She approached me and pulled me into a hug.
âBe careful, Hunter,â she said softly. âI love you.
âI love you too, mom,â I said as I hugged her back.
She let me go and patted my cheek a little.
âI will see you when you get back,â she said.
I nodded and watched as she walked back to my dad.
âI love you, buddy,â dad said as he smiled at me and took my momâs hand in his.
âLove you too,â I said as I watched them walk out of my office.
I smiled.
I wanted to find a mate who would love me as much as my mom loved my dad.
I hoped that I would find her soon.
